Guest guest
For what it's worth, I have a friend who is a Ph. D. and head of an OCD program at a local hospital. I told him that Zoloft did nothing for my daughter's OCD (we tried it for six months at 200mg. pd), and he told me that Zoloft is good for anxiety and panic attacks, but not necessarily OCD. Who knows? How come neither one of our psychiatrists seem to know about paradoxical med. effects? I am an airhead lately, so I can't remember when I last updated y'all. Sorry if this is a repeat: My husband and eldest child (, 16), headed out west yesterday to a business conference in Nevada. I guess there's no need to worry about them.....except for the fact that my husband, an hour into their drive, realized that he had forgotten all of his business clothes and had to come back for them...LOL LOL LOL. Anyway, they'll be gone till the day or day after I leave for Denver, so it's a travelin' July for us. is in the process of switching from Celexa to Paxil. Right now she's on both. She has SAD and OCD and depression, but we're not sure yet if it's bipolar or not. We just switched psychiatrists in the past month--basically because this one is alot closer, but also I wanted some second opinions on 's attention problems. She is 11 with TS, OCD, and, I'd put money on this, ADD. Our first psychiatrist said that all of the attention problems were from OCD, but she is VERY conservative in diagnosing ADD, because she feels it is over-diagnosed. I can appreciate that. was an airhead long before we noticed OCD, however. Anyway, we have added bupropion (Wellbutrin) to her Celexa, and we'll see if it helps. We don't want to add a stimulant because it might make her TS tics alot worse. Between her distractedness and obsessive slowness, you can bet she makes us late for everything. She also has rage episodes, but she is not destructive with them. (Whew!) Our new psychiatrist suspects that (7) has TS brewing as well as his OCD. She noticed a tremor in his arms, and thinks he might be on too much Celexa. (40mg.) She is switching him slowly to Prozac. Most of his touching, stepping, tapping is NOT preceded by an anxious thought, but just a " feeling. " He describes it as his foot, hand, etc., going, " beep, beep, beep, " until he performs the action. He does have symmetry issues and some obsessions, too.....so mysterious, these genes. I am less depressed now with my Wellbutrin increased. I'm on Prozac, too. Right now I'm in the midst of menopause (at 44!), and that probably complicates the mood issues. We have had a good bit of success with CBT, but we are taking a therapy break while I sort out some differences in beliefs between our family and the therapist. Meanwhile, I am hoping to absorb all sorts of wisdom at the conference in Denver. For all newbies, let me just say that all of these Rx's (including my own OCD) came to light in the past 16 months for us. It has been a strange journey of discovery and help-seeking. These lists keep me sane, and are not nearly as fattening as all of the chocolate I have been consuming.....say, did these pants shrink? LOL Love ya, (Fannie May Queen)
