Guest guest
Hi fellow CMTers, I have the same problem playing piano due to clawing effect of the right hand. I can play an octave with my left hand, but not with my right. I also could never gain speed on the piano. As CMT progresses it gets harder to use my right thumb to play piano. I also play guitar & bass, and cannot use a pick anymore, but still play somewhat. My finger dexterity of my left hand has somewhat stayed the same except for that damned thumb LOL. But I am still able to finger chords and play lead, but can't play super fast riffs anymore. Playing bass has also become a chore, since I can't thump anymore due to, you know what, " That damn thumb " LOL. Its hell being a musician with CMT. Maybe they will create an instrument where you don't need thumbs to play it LOL. Well, there's one thing that hopefully CMT can't take away, and that is our ability to listen to music. Guest guest
I agree Al, nothing will ever take away my love for music. Glad to hear you play stringed instruments. I tried guitar, but my hands were so small I couldn't reach around the arm to the strings, and the fingers wouldn't work well anyway. At least I've enjoyed the gift of music. Guest guest
Hi! I play piano too, I don't have the claw effects in my hands yet. But I have noticed over the past two years that I can't play for as long periods of time as I used too. >From: paceu@... >Reply-egroups >egroups >Subject: Re: [] piano/hands >Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 02:06:47 EDT > >Hi fellow CMTers, > > I have the same problem playing piano due to clawing effect of >the right hand. Guest guest
In some earlier posts, I talked about having been greatly criticized by piano teachers, especially in college, for not practicing enough, when in reality it was the CMT that was the problem, but nobody knew then. Now I can still play enough to keep myself happy, but don't do any kind of technical stuff. The idea of turning my thumbs under to play a scale is really LOL! Totally impossible. But I do enjoy playing what I can play. BTW, I also write music, and I have a portable keyboard right close to my computer. Keyboard has a very soft keyboard, which helps. Then, I just enter what I have written into my music editor on the computer and I can play it back. Now that's a trip! Nothing fancy about my playback - I'm sure someone better versed in the world of high tech could make it sound better, but it's okay, and I enjoy it. Guest guest
Does it matter what other might think as long as you enjoy it - that's the most important thing. Incidently I also play the piano, not much now but when I do, it's for me. Dr Spock in Star Trek used to say 'Live long and prosper' I say 'Play and enjoy' and bless you for your music Love Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: cmontana@... egroups Sent: Friday, July 28, 2000 6:52 PM Subject: [] Re: piano/hands In some earlier posts, I talked about having been greatly criticized by piano teachers, especially in college, for not practicing enough, when in reality it was the CMT that was the problem, but nobody knew then. Guest guest
Hi, Sue. No, it doesn't matter - now - but way back then, it seemed that I couldn't do anything right as far as piano playing was concerned, and the college training was rigorous. My self esteem suffered and finally took me away from my music for a long while. Just didn't seem worth the emotional trials, it was easier not doing it than doing it. Glad I'm back!!! A few months ago I went to a special retreat center for an " arts " weekend (a special annual event I give myself) and got to spend about two hours playing a Steinway in a huge room, all by myself, looking out over the river, etc. Peak experience!!
