Hi in La.

I would love to chat with you about ocd and bi-polar but since I might be long winded or worded please write to me off list at lippoliti@....

I only can share with you what I have learned from Dr. Papolos' book, my son's psychiatrist, therapist, and behavior therapist. There are certainly specific things that put some kids more at risk than others for this co-morbid disorder. And symptoms in child are very different than in adults. I too have a brother that was diagnosed bi-polar in his early 20's, but as a teen exhibited much the same behavior as my son, which started at age 9, about 8-10 months after the ocd dx.

I would also be willing to share this info on list as I'm sure there are other parents with kids who are ocd and bi-polar or leaning towards that diagnosis; I just don't know if this is the "right" list. Oops, my ocd is showing again!! So if the moderators "chat" and give me the ok I'll post some info here. If not I'd be glad to chat with others parents with these two diagnosises. Hope to hear from you soon. Hugs, in NJ

hi from another linda on ocd & parenting

Hi,

We are currently in the middle of changing pods and probably our SSRI. I have a brother with bipolar and sometimes wonder if my son has this along with his OCD.

We are also currently seeing a new therapist who thinks there is ADHD involved. My son probably has this since he does have a VERY hard time staying still and concentrating.

Could you possibly give me some ideas of what other sorts of behaviors I would see if he were bipolar? My brother has it but he is not near me since diagnosis so I can see what he does. I don't feel comfortable asking him questions about it since he has never told me about it. I learned it from our mom.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi , lots of our kids have various comorbities that complicate treatment of and living with OCD. I think posts concerning OCD and comorbid bipolar disorder would be welcome to many folks on this list.
