Guest guest
I've been fighting a virus since Monday. I hadn't missed a workout since January 1, I took Monday off. I also went out to my truck to go to the gym on Monday to discover that my truck had been broken into again, for the fourth time at this house and my gym bag was gone. I walked the neighborhood looking for it (because there wasn't anything in it) but couldn't find it. I decided that since I worked out on Sunday, I could skip Monday. Monday night my throat started acting up and I couldn't get warm. Tuesday it was acting like it wanted to be something full blown, so I didn't even set the alarm and I just took it easy. I decided to take my temperature, yeah I was up four points. Yesterday I felt good, but my throat is still on fire. Today I feel ok, but my throat is still on fire and swallowing is difficult. I've learned from experience that I am probably sicker than I feel, like I'm usually more injured than I think. Here's the dilemma. For those of you who have been working out for a long period of time, I have a power lifting meet on Saturday. Most lifters knock off their workouts ten days in advance. I knock off usually the Tuesday before and do just cardio up until the meet. I've done nothing since Sunday and I'm a little afraid to lift on Saturday since the bug is still in me. I hurt myself badly lifting with a stomach virus in August. Any thoughts?
Guest guest
Unless you wake up feeling miraculously better tomorrow, I'd be tempted to bow out on Saturday. Powerlifting in a weakened state does seem like an excellent way to rupture something. On 1/12/06, Dr. Val <drval@...> wrote: > I've been fighting a virus since Monday. Guest guest
I wouldn't. There are some very nasty stomach and general viruses out there and hospitals are reporting record numbers of people coming to the ER or urgent care for what you are describing. These little nasties are staying longer in people's systems than ever. I completely understand your record of working out BUT it will do you no good to exhert yourself and go two steps forward and 12 steps back. Listen to your body...it needs rest, lots of fluid, and for you to rest it in a way it can repair and rebalance itself. These viruses are also making lots of folks sicker than usual where it goes into a upper respitory or pneumonia. I have 3 friends who have had this for over 6 weeks. I hope you feel better and take care. > > I've been fighting a virus since Monday. I hadn't missed a workout since > > January 1, I took Monday off.
