They were the forerunners in complex training, dynamic stretching, etc. In fact, they were the first to really stress weights and their success got everybody started. Are they truly " the best? " I don't know, but everybody copies them to some degree. This is their routine in simple terms: M/TH = explosive lifts+sprints; TU/F=strength lifts+plyometrics. [Maybe they were among the forerunners in using these methods in college football, but they were by no means the forerunners in such methods compared with other sports and other parts of the world. There are going to be quite a few coaches here, too, who are going to disagree with you that they were the " first " to really stress weights and that this is what set others onto the trail of weight training. Guest guest
Fr bhb Lange was my strength coach at Notre Dame from 1964-1968...I played def. back for Ara Parseghian....Fr Lange taught us how to snatch, clean and jerk, back sqt, front sqt, pulls....chin ups, hanging from a bar for grip strength....and to some extent dumbell bench presses. He was in my opinion the first strength coach at a major university.... While I respect Boyd and what he has done at Nebraska, Fr. Lange did this for us years before Boyd - and I have a 1966 national championship ring to prove his value to our team. Boyd took it to a new level...and if it were not for him at Neb, we may still be in the stone ages regarding weight training there.
