I've heard of a journalist losing his job after reporting on Mad Cow disease (because the same people who 'owned' the journalist, also sold the meat). Somewhere in American history it was said that a democracy must have a free press, and we obviously don't have a truly free press now. Also IMHO the corporate owners to a large degree also own our politicians, because of PACs and campaign contributions (when a politician makes law that his corporate owners like; he gets a *contribution* increase to help him/her get elected again). And studies have shown that the best funded politician wins 9 of 10 times (except in high profile races).
