Guest guest
Although delving into the minutae of squatting technique is advantageous for an intermediate or advanced lifter who probably has one or two little problems, it's too confusing for a beginner. Assuming the bar is positioned correctly (I see too many people with the bar at the back of their necks rather than on their lower traps), the best way to tell people how to do the exercise is simply to say, " Envision yourself sitting down on a toilet. " Everyone knows how to do that! It's one of the reason box squats can be so effective. When you sit back and down, making sure that you keep the bar in position, you've pretty much got the idea. Everyone's feet and legs are going to be a bit different, and some people are going to have to lean forward more so than others simply because their biomechanics are different. That doesn't mean one should turn a squat into a good morning, but often that's caused by too much of a load on the bar. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Rosemary Wedderburn-Vernon Marina del Rey, CA IronRoses@...
