Guest guest
Hi I've been trying to find a source for NT-friendly meat. I spoke to a farm shop today and he tells me his beef cattle is fed on grass during the summer, but some grains in winter. Overall, he reckons 1/3 to 1/4 of the diet in winter is grain. The herd is not organic, it's not something he believes in - he mentioned that there are some substances used in organic farming that he wouldn't allow on the farm because they are dangerous. He doesn't use any pesticides on the grass, but uses on codicide on the grains (which he grows himself). The herd is treated homeopathically where possible, but he does medicate in a preventative way (I didn't dig deeper here), I presume with antibiotics. The beef is aged 2-3 weeks prior to sale. Now, this is obviously far better than the meat I currently get from the supermarket but I would be interested to hear your opinions on how NT-friendly this meat actually is. He also produces dairy, but while he used to do unpasturised, he no longer does because demand dried up. Also, the gvt here has made it expensive to produce unpasteurised, although it's not illegal. I asked if he knew a source, but said he knows of some dairies where milk is sold as raw, but is actually pasteurised!!!! Thanks Jo ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
