Guest guest
Does anyone here have experience with plucking geese? We are doing our second bird, and with the amount of time it takes us to pluck it it would be easier to buy one! And have it shipped to us! It has me wondering... Those images of the birds hanging on the back of the door... How did people do it way back when? Did they hang the bird for three days and then the feathers came out easily? (Yeah, I'm grasping.) There must be something we are missing. We've tried dry plucking, we've tried plucking after scalding. And the chest! The chest has lots of fat and was the easiest place to tear off the skin. It had to be plucked just the smallest amount of feathers at a time. [side note. Next year's geese will definitely not be free range. This goose attacked my youngest child - very scary, I couldn't run fast enough - and chased my very tall seven year old son (who after having seen the goose attack his younger sister, wasn't about to stand his ground with it). Next year they will have to have a movable pen or something.] We've got four geese to go, but not today, and hopefully not before someone tells me a better way to pluck a goose. : ) Rhea
