Guest guest
hiya! today was kickboxing and i chose to do janis saffell's 'kick-it'. this dvd contains two 30 minute workouts (incl w/u and c/d for both, or you can do the whole thing with one w/u and c/d for a total of 55 mins). the first workout is cardio kickboxing... lots of hops and bouncing in this workout. i had a pounding headache so i had to modify and not bounce around too much. this took alot of the action out of the workout and the combos didnt flow as well but ::shrug::, what's a girl to do? janis and gang wear weighted gloves during this workout so i held my one pound dumbells and this did help to maintain some of the intensity while kicking and punching. the second workout is kickbox drills, done with, and around, a step and with a partner. a partner is not required, and neither is a step actually. the pace of this workout is slower than the cardio workout and, today, i liked this one best. janis also wears her gloves during this one, so i also held my dumbells. the cooldown is a nice sequence of tai-chi moves and stretching. janis came up with some good combos during both of the workouts. despite leaving out much of the cardio in the first workout, i still managed to burn a total of 330 calories, so it was OK. unfortunately, this is not one of janis' best dvds... the workouts are ok and janis is fine -- she has good form, cues well, looks great and her backgrounders all look good, but the production value is a bit low. the setting is plain, an industrial warehouse kind of thing and the music and janis' voice is full of echoes. it wasnt bad enough to ruin the workout, but still not as well done as janis' other dvds. tomorrow is strength training so i think that i will do the new kathy smith matrix ultimate sculpt. :*carolyn.
