Overcame slug syndrome & worked out!

All day long I sat around feeling like a slug debating whether or not I'd work out. I had planned to work out but was busy finishing housework and taking down Christmas stuff and just couldn't get motivated. Kept making excuses like "I vacuumed, I don't need to work out." My kids were so wound (big transitions like taking down the Christmas stuff make them crazy, especially the older one) they were driving me nuts too. Finally, around 7:15 this evening, little one was having a bath with Dad helping, big kid was watching the Rose Bowl and I decided to finally get off my butt and exercise! I headed to my workout room still not knowing what I actually wanted to do and then suddenly decided to put in my Kari Go: Step or whatever it is called tape. I haven't done it in probably 2 months so I didn't use any risers, just wanted to see how I'd do. I got through the entire first workout, actually remembering the routines really well, then felt so good I went on to the 2nd workout! I've never completed this one, it was just too overwhelming and difficult for me, plus I was always so tired out from the first one, but something said, try anyway. So I did AND I did great!! I still do not know how she does "Around the World" and really need to practice that one (I just did other moves on the step while they did that), but I got all the other moves fairly well. My timing was, of course, totally off, but for the first time through I felt like I'd done really well. Only problem was my goofy family came knocking on the door to get me for bedtime prayers just as I was really moving hard in the last few routines. I couldn't say "Go away!" so I put the DVD player on pause and went upstairs for the few minutes that took, then somehow got back into it, got my heart rate back up pretty well, and finished through the stretch. I loved it and felt so great that I was actually able to do the whole tape finally!

Of course, I came up and finally got into a basket of yummies I got as a Christmas present, that I've been putting off getting into. Darn, it has REALLY yummy stuff in it. I'm going to try and make myself only have a treat if I workout that day (and then try to limit it to one or two treats). I didn't open it before partly because we had so much stuff in the house and that's mostly gone. Now I'm getting back on track with my eating (never went totally crazy, but was less restrained with sweets than normal the last 10 days) and also want to enjoy this (it was a very loving, unexpected gift) so I'm going to really try hard to make that my goal: workout = 1 or 2 yummies, not more. No workout, no yummies. Maybe some of it will go stale before I get into it and that would be almost okay too!

Off to a better start in the New Year than I thought I would! Hope you are too, or that at least tomorrow will be your good start!
