Guest guest
I know a mom who had her 2nd child just over a year ago. The child is obviously bright, but the doctors are concerned because baby weighs 17 lb and he should be at 25 lb. He screams a lot (which isn't a serious medical problem). Also he was rushed to the hospital after a pediatric visit because of dangerously high potassium levels! He's being testing for a bunch of things including cystic fibrosis, so clearly the docs are concerned. I mentioned to her gluten intolerance. Everytime I see this child he is eating a refined wheat product. That raises a red flag in my book. The mom said he has already tested negative for celiac. She seemed interested when I said that test might not always be right. But we didn't get a chance to discuss and I won't be seeing her anytime soon. Does anyone have any (easy-to-read) links about how gluten intolerance can go undetected, how it's more common than previously thought, how it's routinely tested for in Europe, etc. The mom isn't a close friend so I want to send links casually without appearing pushy. I don't want to let it go because the poor child is adorable and powerless over the fact that wheat is being put in his mouth all the time. Thx.
