Guest guest
Heidi, I keep telling myself I shouldn't be surprised when I hear these things, but my blood boils every time. Interesting to see that wrote a whole book on stomach acid. Do you know if he recommends particular enzymes? I've been looking at Peptizyde, and am finding that there are so many more varieties of these plant-based enzymes, some full-spectrum and others heavier on the proteases. (just started to plough through all the info at www.enzymestuff.com) At this point I'm not sure what I need, but I think I need to go one step up from the basic full-spectrum product I've been using (EnzyMega). I'm completely gluten-free but I'm still eating some raw cheese and am wondering if casein even from raw dairy might be causing any immune reactions that I can't immediately perceive. Since I have such a small repertoire of foods at this point, I'd hate to give that up without reasonable doubt. Might be worth a few-day trial, I guess, but I rarely get feedback that I can trace to a dietary change except over the longer run. -
Guest guest
Thanks for posting the enzyme website. A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with acid reflux, and tried Prilosec, it made it worse. Instead, I thought it through and started taking a little vinegar before meals, then graduated to taking HCL before meals, to increase my stomach acid, and I've been eating more raw food and also enzymes. Much much better Laurie
Guest guest
Laurie, Thanks for the reminder about vinegar! I can't seem to tolerate taking HCL and wasn't sure how to get around that. And I do love vinegary things. Great to hear your good results. - --- In , " lassegaard " <glowbear@w...> wrote: > Thanks for posting the enzyme website. > > A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with acid reflux, and > tried Prilosec, it made it worse. Guest guest
Hi , V. has a web site with articles, some are about digestion. There you might find an answer about the enzymes. www.tahoma-clinic.com All my best, Sheila -- In , <karenr@c...> wrote: > Heidi, > > I keep telling myself I shouldn't be surprised when I hear these things, > but my blood boils every time. > > Interesting to see that wrote a whole book on stomach acid. > Do you know if he recommends particular enzymes? (just started to plough through all the info at www.enzymestuff.com) I know a woman who went to him, and she ended up on BioGest (at his recommendation, I believe). His book has much more indepth recommendations though. For instance, some people get better by adding turmeric to their diet (which I did, turns out I love the stuff too). Good Indian curries, here I come! But he mainly recommends HCL, which isn't just enzymes, it is Hydrochloric acid. BioGest has both. You CAN'T take it on an empty stomach though! >At this point I'm not sure what I need, but I think I need to go one step >up from the basic full-spectrum product I've been using (EnzyMega). I type everything into the computer along with symptoms -- I have a little program I wrote (which unfortunately is not sharable because of the language it is written in). I still haven't decided about dairy, but I do test positive for IgA allergy to casein. Cheese doesn't give me any immediate reactions, but once I gave it up I got somewhat aversive to it, which likely means something. Over the last 6 months or so, I've had ZERO heartburn though, or nausea of any kind. Given that I'm doing these gonzo Warrior meals in the evening that is rather significant. Last night I had 4 greasy fried tacos (in palm oil, not my usual coconut oil), plus a couple extra tortillas, avacodo/tomato salad, kefir beer, and wine, with no enzymes. -- Heidi

Apparently the sphincter at the top of the stomach closes TIGHT when it detects acid. So it leaks when acid is LOW. So Prilosec makes it worse, acid makes it better. Lowering the stomach acid prevents the esophagus from getting " burned " so much, but at the expense of food digestion. I also note that a lot of cultures eat " pickles " with a meal ... Eating kimchi with each meal gives a person a shot of acid and enzymes and probiotics, all in one. Given that there is some research on this, you kind of wonder at the Prilosec people! I wonder also at the medical community ... the other solution they offer is to " wrap " the sphincter so it closes more, surgically. -- Heidi

Well that would be an easy solution, since I love Indian flavors, but I bloat just thinking about the beans/rice I used to try to endure! But to use it with veggies would work.. I used to do stir-fries with Indian spices, and might just go back to that. > But he mainly recommends HCL, which isn't just enzymes, it is Hydrochloric acid. BioGest has both. You CAN'T take it on an empty stomach though! Yeah, maybe that was my problem, taking it with too little food in the stomach, even though I took a very small amount. Kind of a vicious cycle when I can't eat enough to take enzymes which might help me eat enough! > Over the last 6 months or so, I've had ZERO heartburn though, or nausea of any kind. Guest guest
When I went low carb my acid reflux couldn't tolerate it and left. ;-) As long as I stay away from the high processed junk and sugar I have no problems. Enjoy! ;-) Judith Alta -----Original Message----- Thanks for posting the enzyme website. A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with acid reflux, and tried Prilosec, it made it worse.
