I try to eat pastured eggs, and do. I have several sources, one is far away, one doesn't have enough to keep up with my egg consumption, and another I get for *free*, but it's a dozen every two weeks usually. I have a friend who participates in our local raw milk drive (we take turns going down to CT, and it is growing so quickly that it looks like by the time it's my turn again it will be months from now!... though we're not going to be able to meet at dunkin donuts anymore cause there's no room in the parking lot!), and he goes to Country Hen's farm in Hubbardston to by their " seconds " -- I guess funny-looking eggs they don't want to give to stores or something. Anyway, Country Hen is not pastured, but they are definitely high quality. They mill all their own feed and they feed oyster shells too. These are the notoriously expensive eggs that go for $2.69 per HALF dozen, the cheapest I've seen them, and I've also seen them for $3.69 per HALF dozen. While they're good eggs (for store-bought), they definitely aren't worth the price. Anyway, I just bought four flats from this friend at cost-- for a buck a flat. A flat is 30 eggs. In other words, I bought *ten dozen* eggs for *four dollars*. That's 40 cents a dozen, instead of the usual price of $5-7 a dozen they go for in the store. Apparently they usually sell them a little more expensive, but it is very cheap anyway. Country Hen is in Hubbarston MA. If anyone on the list lives anywhere near central MA, and either doesn't have a source of pastured eggs, eats more eggs than they can supply, or is totally broke like me and looking for half-way decent dirt cheap food, I encourage you to check out this source.
