Guest guest
, What you are describing is exactly what Dr. Yasko sees in children with a CBS upregulation mutation. Massively elevated taurine in urine, high ammonia. B6, P5P, AKG, taurine and sulfur-based supplements will all exacerbate this until you have some other supplements in place to bypass the mutations that are part of the problem (bacteria/viruses and metals are otehr parts of the whole picture, of course. Even once you have started to bypass the genetics with apprpriate supplementations, some of these supplements will just not be advisable if you do have that genetics -- obviously you need some B6, for instance). In addition, Acetyl-l-carnitine may not be good for some children with excessive acteylcholine due to excessive aluminum retention (related to a heavy bacterial load), and these children may do better on plain carnitine. Choline can also be related to seizure activity, so I wonder if you are using any thing with choline or phosphatydily serine and the like? How are glutamate and asparate levels, and calcium levels -- these can all be related to seizure activity, too. With the GABA, my first question would be to see if it was plain GABA, not mixed with anything, and to see what other supplements you were giving along with it. Dr. Yasko has a great number of children who are working with her protocol who have seizures and have seen them be reduced. I have a good friend with a little girl with Rett Syndrome who saw a reduction in seizures on Dr. Yasko's program -- and this little girl also had CBS upregulations with high urinary taurine/ammonia that were part of the overall picture. The first thing I would do if I were in your place would be to lower the protein in the diet a little bit. This should help to tone down the ammonia. Then I would look at Dr. Yasko's program. It may be that this will be a fit with your little girl's problems. It very much sounds that way to me, but that's just my perspective on things.
