Guest guest
Jen, Like I said before my mom had some luck in shrinking hers with birth control pills. Maybe they were a special type of pill, not sure. I understand that when you stop the pills they can get bigger again. You can also think of this as a time you can research your condition and go in for your next appointment with more information on the types of surgery available. I always understood that if they were large enough to cause discomfort that surgery is the best option. You could also look into the costs of the surgery. I would guess the doctor says monitor because of the insurance issue. Do you have plans to get insurance? Guest guest
hi jen, this makes me mad b/c I think you'd be getting different care if you had insurance - of course now, with your condition, you might not be able to get insurance to cover this since it is a " pre-existing " condition. I would not only definately get a second opinion but I would do some research into what your state can help you do - it sounds to me that you are being discriminated against b/c you don't have insurance - is there a medical review board or something that may consider your case/situation?. I wonder if you could somehow prove that you could pay the hospital bill if that would change the course of action? Maybe provide some sort of evidence that you've worked out a payment plan or have a loan in place or something. Did she suggest any alternative 'conservative' treatment? what are the implications for letting this condition go - wont the fibroids just get bigger and bigger? Isn't your doc afraid of malpractice? If she doesn't think surgery is appropriate she should at least propose an alternative course of 'conservative " therapy as a start to see if that improves the situation w/out the need for surgery. I'd hate for your condition to go untreated as I imagine it will only get worse over time. UGH! Take care and keep us posted. Guest guest
I agree with Donna, My daughter had no ins. and she keeps getting the run around at the clinic she has been going to to treat her hpv warts. I just went to my obgyn for my annual and told him about her and her told me to send her to him and he would take care of her at a dicount. There are still some good doctors out there that care about the person instead of the almighty dollar. Hope things get better for you Jen. Guest guest
Jen, Hang in there!! I was thinking of the Weil book Spontaneous Healing may be right for you in your current situation. Many people in this book have used the power of their minds to heal health problems. Silly doctor--how would she like to carry around a huge fibroid in her own body?? I would ask her that question if you see her. Let that woman doctor know it is causing you stress in many ways--physical and mental.Just about a month and a half ago I told a doctor--who had given me " bad " news over the phone--how I felt about having no support and how I cried for days. She was shocked (and embarassed) that I let her know how I felt. She apologized to me and promised to think about the way she will give " bad phone " results in the future. See, I helped myself and probably others. Sometimes doctors need reality checks--they are dealing with real people with feelings not just the numbers from tests on paper and ultrasound pictures. Guest guest
Hi Stacey, that Gyn has no consideration for me at all! She called me just as I was about to leave for work, or rather one of the office workers called me "for" her then she put me on hold....I was so PISSED OFF! I gave my Mom the phone and went to work. The next day she did the same thing but I waited 10 mins for her to talk to me and tell me that she didn't want to operate because it's major surgery! I HATE doctors!
