It took me YEARS to build up the confidence to call WW and talk about becoming a leader and last night I finally attended an information session to learn more about opportunities with them. I walked out feeling like I'd really accomplished something and honestly said if it didn't go any further, especially because they might not have openings at locations and times I can do, it would be fine. I at least got over myself and went! Then, this morning while I was at yoga I already got a call from them to schedule my training!!! I'm so excited! They have you learn the receptionist job first and work in that for probably 3-6 months before you can train to become a leader. Receptionists weigh members, take the money and do a bunch of other things members don't see happening but their role is critical. They are the first people a new member meets and weigh ins for anyone at any stage can be so difficult for so many of us that a receptionist needs to know how to interact with people whose emotions are totally on the surface and truly vulnerable. Leaders also need to know how to do the things receptionists do so they can jump in and weigh people, etc. especially during busy times. I'm totally fine with starting there. I can see how important it is to be able to do those things and help out where necessary and it is such an important job too that it will feel great doing that. The receptionist training, I'm told, will address both the functional aspects of the job and the personal interactions too. I'll have one 3 hour classroom training session, then will be mentored at meetings for a month (twice a week, two meetings each time, can do once a week but I'm available for twice a week and that will help a lot), then back to the classroom for another 3 hour session, then I think more mentoring but I think at the meetings you'll be working regularly. I should have taken notes during the meeting. I almost always do but there was paperwork to fill out too so I didn't want to be more distracted from what was being said and interacting with others. Oh well, it will be fine either way. Leader training would happen after you've been a receptionist for a while and they have a need for a leader with your availability (times and locations). DH is so awesome too, he's going to come home early 2 days a week (one really early, one slightly early) for me to be able to do the training and he's going to take the little one to his Cub Scout meetings for the 3 hour class sessions I have (he's a den leader). Will update again after I start training! Thanks for all your support everyone!
