Guest guest
If this were true, all atheists would be immoral. I'm not sticking up for atheism per se, but this is clearly false as there are a lot of atheists who are plenty more moral than believers in God-- and plenty of vile ones too. Guest guest
So sorry to prolong this topic but I wish to make one comment and then leave it alone. The primary libertarian proponent described himself as an atheist and later stated that the unsound of mind and body should be able to rely on the kindness and gentleness of others to care for them. If we are indeed evolved from random chemicals, sort of goo to you by way of the zoo, and if there is no external standard of behavior such as God, then why on earth should anyone bother with kindness? In the absence of God there is no " do unto others " . We cannot assign value to an action such as stopping to allow children to cross the street or speeding up to hit them, with apologies to Sartre. We can only say that such and such happened and leave it at that (we cannot even do that according to post-modernists). That's it; no more preaching. But we simply can't have our cake (using spelt flour and stevia, of course) and eat it too. In the absence of God morality is meaningless. Guest guest
Dear I agree with you. There are immoral people in every single group, bar none, yet the same holds true for there being moral people in every group as well like atheists. Because atheists, just like many folk, are not epistemologically self-conscious, so they often act opposite of what their philosphical first principles might suggest. Thank goodness too. Guest guest
- Are you seriously suggesting that atheism can only philosophically support evil, and that the degree to which atheists don't act evil is strictly the degree to which they don't act in accordance with their atheism? >Because atheists, just like many folk, are not epistemologically >self-conscious, so they often act opposite of what their philosphical >first principles might suggest.
