Well I know where I am starting - with that quote from the editor of the BMJ - only 15% of medical procedures and treatment shave any emprical secientific evidence as to their efficacy. Yep right - now what?

Very humble

opinion here but I think best not to mention vaccines because 1. it’s controversial

and 2. I saw Shattock speak recently and he really doesn’t think

that vaccines are the main cause of autism in the UK (although I personally

think they did cause Tom’s autism). He says there’s no link as

there is in the US between an increase in the number given and the increase autism (I

asked him about any link between giving them to younger children and an

increase in autism and he said definitely not). He says the incidence of

mercury in the environment in the UK is really low. He thinks that the symptoms of autism vary so

greatly from person to person because the causes vary and sometimes the causes

can clump in certain countries like mercury/ vaccines in the US. Anyway, what do I know

but I think it’s better to stick to real facts like the increase is real,

the illness is real and something’s causing it.

Only a

thought.

Gee whiz Mandi, you have such a lot on your plate just now. I have so

much admiration for you, and gratitude to you. There would not be a

medal big enough to reflect what you do.

Try not to worry too much about them asking where the metals came from.

Are you worried that they will try to get you to be controversial and

so discredit your appeal? If your emphasis is on the fact that the

metals are there, and you reiterate that as your main concern if they

try digging, I am sure you will get your message across. You really

are a star, good luck chuck.

I'm really going to stick my neck out here, but when I spoke to Shattock about all the antibiotics had for ear infections when he was barely 2yrs old, he was of the opinion that the Dr's did the right thing in prescribing ever stronger Anti B's!

I may not be a medical person but I strongly disagree.

We had a bout of Croup with when he was a bit over 3 yrs old, the Dr asked if he was allergic to penicillin, I said he can't take any Anti B's, he said,"No matter, it would have cleared up by the time the medication takes effect anyway"!

I think the link between vaccinations and Antibiotics is clear at the very least with the gut issues, and they are willy nilly prescribing and vaccinating with no thought of any consequences.

Doctors do loads of stuff they don't know the reason for just because it

works. These Elmiron pills that are prescribed for cystitis say on the

medical notes that no one knows why they work.

I think

the point is no matter what you are to all of us, they will be dealing primarily

with the mother of an ill-child and why on earth would it matter to you at this

stage where it comes from? He has heavy metal toxicity and they should damn

well do something about it!

OR another approach would be to say (sort

of a quote from Wakefield) that it may or may not be vaccines but to

dismiss vaccines as the cause without proper investigation is not justifiable.

Vicky,

probably meant it was the lesser of two evils. ear infections untreated spread quickly to the brain and possibly meninges...meningitis and encephalitis can set in....and then you're really up the creek without a paddle so to speak....

Just my humble opinion.

I know

so little about this Peta.

Any evidence or information I’ve

ever read has been about the states and I would love to have some more facts

about the UK. Shattock seemed to know what he was talking about but then

again I’ve never ever heard anyone else talk about the UK.

He said that all kids with autism are

diagnosed because they tick the boxes but that they all vary (which we know)

but he was talking about groups of kids having similar other traits. He said

MMR kids have about 5 symptoms which they all share and non-MMR kids may have

some of these traits but never all of them: funny gait, more affectionate than

other autistic children, big thirst, bowel problems and damn, forgotten the

fifth one. Tom has all these traits, had the MMR and has just tested positive

for measles. He said that on his travels he had frequently seen whole groups of

children with autism having common characteristics which seemed peculiar to

that country. He mentioned one country where regression always happened at age

2 and another country where he had seen a large group of children with autism playing,

they kept turning round to check that their mothers were there and he hadn’t

seen that before. This has led him to believe that autism varies from country

to country or group to group or that it varies according to its cause. I think

he was saying that mercury and vaccines were

the cause in the states. He is also adamant that it was wrong to inject newborns

with mercury and he spoke about some vaccines being totally pointless and only

there to make money for the drugs companies.

I am really not qualified to express any

opinion on any of this except that I think vaccines and a filling did cause Tom’s

autism but also that Shattock is a clever, caring man. I would love to

hear more about the changeover to new vaccines in 1988 – does anyone know

of an increase in thimerosal at that time? When did the epidemic begin in this

country and does it coincide with vaccines being given at a younger age? My dad

has begun to write letters to “significant” people about vaccines. It

would be great to have more info or questions to ask specifically about the UK.

Re: PCT Update - Long

It's interesting

that Shattock doesn't think that thimerosal is

the main cause. It is a fact that all children were injected with

more than the FDA's " safe limit " of mercury.I wonder how much

thimerosal was in each jab prior to about 1988 when all the new

vaccines were introduced. It is difficult not to mention that the

mercury came from the vaccines. Also Mandi said there are now 1:86

in this country - that means we are worse than the States.

the precise words are " Elmiron is used to treat the pain or discomfort

of interstitial cystitis. It is not known exactly how Elmiron works but

it is not a pain medication like.............and must therefore be taken

continuously for relief as prescribed "

ie we don't know what it does but it works and once started you take it

forever. I enjoy the word " therefore " -- we don't know how it works and

therefore it must be taken continuously

I don't know if this is it, but he has said that the kids with the large IAG gluten peak don't tend to be the MMR kids.

I have seen a copy of your letter of July 2005 to Dr DB Shortland, Consultant Paediatrician, about . On page 3 of this you referred to elevated levels of numerous heavy metals. As part of your reply to me, it would be very helpful to hear what the reference ranges are for all of these, to what extent ’s levels exceeded these, and your views as to how such substances may have been ingested by him.
