Guest guest
WAY TO GO JEN!!!!!!! Wow! Even during the holidays you lost that much, that is AWESOME!!! I don't remember seeing your 10% goal in there before but I wanted to say how smart that is! Research shows we get big health benefits by just losing 10% of our excess body weight! I also wanted to comment on how great it is that you have a goal RANGE and not ultimate #. I have always noticed that you have such a healthy attitude toward weight loss and I know you're going to keep doing well! I'm proud to be one of your exercise partners and cheering each other on! Guest guest
Thanks , I've revised my weight loss goals since reading exerpts from "YOU on a Diet" and I think that having a weight range is better so that if I have more muscles (which I want) then I can be at the heavy end of the range and still look and feel good. I also included a waist goal because in the book it says that your waist should be 1/2 of your height in inches. I love having you as my buddy! I hope we can meet this Summer, Jen nancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: WAY TO GO JEN!!!!!!! Wow! Even during the holidays you lost that much, that is AWESOME!!! Guest guest
Weight range is also better because it is healthier psychologically for those of us who get hung up on weight issues (me included) and for people whose weight ranges due to fluid retention. Besides, once you lose the weight, the scale doesn't stay at one number for eternity. It does fluctuate and in some people, mostly due to water retention, it fluctuates a lot and it is better to have a plan built in for dealing with that instead of freaking out over the numbers. I'm maintaining now and have a maintenance range of 108-112. Some people do better with larger ranges but my weight doesn't move a lot with my cycles so I don't have to worry about the water issues much. I like being below 110 best partly because of the stupid number (!) but 112 is my "red-line" mark. If the scale moves over 112 it means I need to get back to losing for a bit. I look good up to about that point, then the fat starts to show on me and 3-5 pounds is a lot easier to lose than 15 or 20. I haven't heard about the waist goal before. Maybe I'll measure my weight to see where that is. I haven't updated my measurements since I lost the weight so I should do it, might be fun for once! I'm weighing in tomorrow probably and don't expect to have lost, am just hoping not to have gained too much this week (I was doing so good dealing with the sweets until Christmas Eve or even the 23rd, then ate mostly whatever I wanted Christmas Day and am back on program today). But, I am exercising again, so that should help! Meeting this summer would be a blast! Maybe we can try to meet Kerry somewhere (though I think she's pretty far away, too bad she's not in Windsor)! Guest guest
Your weight range is awesome ! How long have you maintained it? Did you ever have a weight problem? What was your highest weight? Mine was 209, now I'm 204.8 so I haven't made much progress losing the weight probably because I haven't been exercising consistently DUH! How tall are you? You know I'm 5'. How old are you? I'm 41. I hope you don't mind me asking you so many personal questions. I'm just curious like my cats, I guess. Seriously though, I want to know if it's possible for someone who is their early 40's ie me to get my weight down that low so I will be at a healthy weight for someone my height. Guest guest
Thanks Jen!!! I don't mind the personal questions at all and am glad to answer them, hoping I can inspire others!! I have *ALWAYS* struggled with my weight and always will I'm sure but I really believe I'm going to stay at a very healthy weight now. My attitude is totally different than it ever was before. Now it is very personal and very health-oriented, before it was more appearance and trying to make others get off my back I think. I've gained and lost 3 times (official really trying hard, with Weight Watchers and countless other times with various diet plans). This time is for real. My highest, non-pregant weight was probably over 150 or 160 but I don't own a scale so I'm not sure (I weigh at weekly Weight Watchers meetings which I'm not required to attend more than monthly since I'm a lifetime member but I enjoy attending weekly for motivation, encouragement and accountability). I know I went up around or over 180 when I was pregnant with my daughter (I quit looking at the scale when I saw 177 and the nurse didn't say what it actually was) and I was still wearing maternity pants for a long time after she was born because I couldn't fit into my regular jeans and didn't want to buy new ones. Highest recorded non-pregnant weight was 147 though. When I finally went to Weight Watchers in February 2006 I was at 133 (this is after losing 30 pounds with them a few years earlier and then regaining most of it because I gave in to emotional eating during difficult times and didn't stop when life got better). I got down to my official WW goal of 123 by May 2006 and decided to keep losing. I've been consistently under 110 for the last 8 weeks and at or under my 123 goal since May (so over 7 months). I'm 4'11 3/4" but WW calls me 5 feet and my healthy weight range according to them is 102-123. I know that 102 is definitely too low for me, I can see it at 108 that losing more would not look good and that whatever is wiggling will still wiggle! I also know 123 is definitely too high for me. I was there for a long time (maintained between 120 and 125 for years) and wasn't comfortable. I got down to 117 last time and felt really good because I couldn't remember when I was that low before. This time, when I got to 117 I wasn't ready to stop. I wanted to know what it would be like lower. I wanted to know if I could too because I'd never been down lower. When I got to where I am now my best friend told me she thought I'd looked good at 117 but noticed my legs were still big and that going down further slimmed them down nicely (and added that she didn't think I should lose more though). I'm turning 40 on January 12 and I haven't looked this good probably ever. I feel so healthy and so in control because I lost the weight slowly and consciously. I know what I did to lose and I definitely know what I did to gain (not "what caused me to gain" but what *I DID*). I am in control, not my emotions, not my metabolism, not food, me. I had totally bought into the "oh, I'm in my late 30s, soon to be 40s and my metabolism has slowed down and I can't expect myself to lose much weight" mentality. That was the latest excuse. Then I noticed there were lots of women a lot older than me who looked great and I just looked blah. I found out a lot of them had weight struggles but had overcome them. I decided I would too. I knew I needed to for my health and that my kids and husband needed me to stick around longer too and the extra weight was hurting them too. It is EXTREMELY possible for someone at 41 to get down to a healthy weight and it is TOTALLY possible to maintain it after you lose it too. I've noticed most of the WW leaders and receptionists I know are in their 40s and 50s and they have all lost weight and kept it off (with WW). To add to my own determination to continue maintaining, I'm going to an information session regarding employment with Weight Watchers on January 16 (4 days after I turn 40)! I want to be a WW leader!! I've thought about it for a long time but I finally believe in myself and my abilities to maintain enough that I think I'd be able to help other people and have fun doing it too. Add my exercising (which I rarely did when I was losing and wish I had because I think it would have helped me to have less loose skin) and I'm planning to be fit and fabulous at 40 and beyond!!!! Guest guest
I will definately join you ! It's also nice to know that you don't live too far away from me that we would never meet each other I'm going to start walking again because that's how I lost the weight the first time (got down to 125 lbs,) and change the foods I eat slowly, really I just need to eat a little throughout the day and stop eating so late at night. I'm going to start tonight by going to bed earlier. I don't have to do anything for work until Jan. 4th so I have plenty of time to exercise, and do the things I should. I also want to lose the weight for my friend Sonjia. She is diabetic, has it in her family but she is obese as well and doesn't get any kind of exercise except for bowling every other Friday night. She tends to copy what I do...for example I got my hair cut short, then she got her hair cut short...so I'm hoping that she will want to exercise and lose weight when she sees me doing it. I think any weight loss would help her health to improve whether she stays diabetic or not. Thanks buddy! Jen nancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: Thanks Jen!!! Guest guest
Hi Darcy, I'm hoping that I can influence my friend Sonjia to lose weight...weight loss is such a personal thing and you have to really WANT to change your life in order to be successful long-term...we will see. I know that I will have to force myself at first. I'm kind of different in that I actually like to exercise BUT (there's that word again!) it's all about habit and I'm in the bad habit of not exercising...just sitting on my butt! LOL Thanks for the encouragement! Remember to exercise too! You can't get enough exercise by just training your clients right? Take care, Jen Darcy Ledman <exercise.junkie@...> wrote: Jen,You have DOUBLE the motivaton. What a great thingto know that you can change TWO peoples lives! You CAN do this. Join me Jen, I KNOW you can do it! You're already on your way!!!!
