Hello All!

I have a silly question...Orange Flower Absolute...does it spoil in 4-6

months like the other citruses? I thought since technically it is an

absolute from a flower that it wouldn't spoil like that, but someone

told me that it does??? How about Pettigrain? Any other essence spoil

that I should know about, besides the obvious citruses?

Thank You,

Ellen

Hi Ellen,

It is primarily cold-pressed Citrus peel oils that are most susceptible to

oxidization and quick deterioration. (And essence oils, as I mentioned in my

previous post.) Neroli, or Orange Flower, either steam distilled or

absolute, is made from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree and Petitgrain

is distilled from the leaves. They do not have the same short shelf life,

as you surmised. Adding nitrogen or CO2 extends shelf life to most oils.

We refrigerate: All steam distilled Blue Oils (chamomiles, yarrows, blue &

jade cypress, tansy) Conifer (Abies, Cedrus, Cupressus, Juniperus, Pinus)

needle oils, Citrus peel oils and Citrus essence oils, helichrysum,

goldenrod, cilantro leaf, dill, hemp, hops, ledum, SD melissa, myrtle,

parsley, rhododendron, st. johnswort, tarragon, vitex leaf. There are

probably some I left off this list as well.

Be well,
