Guest guest
Hello Nikki I have had a look at the previous messages you mentioned and can say that we have had Calum's thyroid checked, it is normal. and I both agree that Calum does seem to be a viral child more than a metal one although of course metals are a problem, so maybe further down the virus protocal it will help? We will be ading Valtrex after a few rounds of TD-DMSA. Another reason why I think viruses are a major issue is because, we put Calum on a GF/CF diet days before his second birthday after a week of hell, he started to show an interest in food for the first time. He did eat all that he was given for the next month and it was great, until his ABA tutor got a really bad cold and Calum caught it, he was really ill for over two weeks and then, we went back to the old way of not wanting to eat. Calum has had gastroenteritus several times (before Jean!) and chicken pox so you can see why I say more virual than metal (he also did not have MMR but single measles jab, I think the virus in that added to his load). Calum will go for red pepper everytime and will not eat the green pepper at all. His rice cakes are brown and I am going to go and read up on the low oxalate diet you mentioned although it does fill me with fear to even think about taking the only food he likes away. Calum does move his bowels (sorry!) every day at least once normally twice (all since the bio protocal). He we make sure his mineral levels are up. We do have to use good old oxy powder every couple of weeks (roughly) as he totally refuses to eat then and you can see his big hard belly showing consitpation. Thank you Nikki for taking the time to e-mail me with such helpful info, sorry for sending such a long reply! Guest guest
Someone else has the red peppers fad!!! I'm amazed I thought it was only my boy who would die for red peppers, he is ecstatic when he sees me get them out of the fridge, always struck me as a very odd fave food for a child lol. Guest guest
Hi Nikki Thanks for the advise, Calum has had an x-ray before now (in July) and was slightly impacted which we treated with senna and oxy. I will have a look at the site you mentioned. I have an appointment by phone with Calum's paediatrician today as I want a referal to a gastro specialist so I can make sure he is not in pain. I certainly feel less useless now as I have a list of possibilites to explore so thank you Nikki and everyone else for your advise and support. Guest guest
Hi We had years and years of food difficulties - right from weaning at 4 months - a teaspoonful would take (without exaggeration) 2 or 3 hours of effort and then it often came straight back up. Things improved slightly with teeth - which made me think texture of food and issues with spoon - harder finger food was better but still not a huge improvement - over 3 or 4 years and lots of dietary intervention/exclusion diets (ha ha - nothing went in any way )/testing there was a gradual improvement and weight gain until now at 9 we have the opposite problem of endless appetite. Another thing that helped was strong tasting food - garlic, chilli etc. There were all sorts of reasons - intolerance, sensory etc but eventually it came right. No magic but a lot of perseverence - which I'm sure you can do. Not any real help - but at the time I thought it would never end, as I'm sure you do. You will eventually look back and see progress. Guest guest
Thanks , it is good to know that it is not forever even if it does feel that way right now! I will try some garlic tonight to see if the strong taste helps. xx > Message Received: Sep 25 2006, 10:54 AM> From: " Bartley" > Autism Treatment > Cc: > Subject: Re: Re: Not interested in food> > Hi> We had years and years of food difficulties - right from weaning at 4 > months - a teaspoonful would take (without exaggeration) 2 or 3 hours > of effort and then it often came straight back up.
