Hi, Marcia,

I am just south of Chimacum, about 200 ft. up on a west-facing ridge,

and feeling very lucky, as we are doing fine. We had about 5 inches

of snow, and then strong winds and rain, but did not even lose our

power. The valley below is filled with peat bogs, and Chimacum Creek

floods every winter to become Lake Chimacum. The photos of much of

the rest of the NW are pretty shocking, however. Kitsap County has

had landslides, roads washed out, homes lost, and millions of dollars

of damage (Bremerton had 13 in. of rain in 24 hrs.)

Along Hood Canal, Highway 101 is closed near Hoodsport, Brinnon area

is flooded, and Kennedy Creek, where our family has gone to watch

salmon spawn in years past, had a flash flood that tore right through

a restaurant. My brother is a scientist with the State and told my

mother tonight that there has been serious damage to fisheries. (By

the way, what stream are you on, Marcia?)

I saw an article predicting that we may be getting more tropical

typhoon type storms in the future. There's a lot of gloomy news to

try to deal with these days.

Glad you were able to view the salmon with your grandson.

Warm wishes,

Autumn
