Guest guest
, sitting on the stability ball instead of the couch is a great idea! You can burn calories bouncing, and you can lift weights during commercials such as bicep curls, like three sets of 12 on each arm. Next commercial, tricep extensions. Next break, chest presses, next break, abs, etc.. the ball is so great!laura Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited.
Guest guest
That's a great idea! My younger daughter does that to work on her balance/coordination (she has a seizure disorder, for some reason it's affected her balance and sense of direction). You do work the abs and back just sitting there, or you could take it up a notch by slowly raising one leg, then the other. Anne While I'm waiting for a hole in the wall of time to open so that I can actually concentrate on a workout, I'm wondering if, during my especially brainless, too tired to do much more than vegetate in front of the TV time (like now) it would do me any good to sit on the stability ball instead of the couch? Not that it would necessarily count as a workout but I'm thinking it might take abdominal and back muscles to hold myself steady, maybe I could even do a little bouncing, just something to not be a total couch potato (though the couch is reallllllly comfy tonight). Yawning much now, time for bed, will look for responses tomorrow. Thanks!
Guest guest
Glad it works for you Anne! Guess I'll be hanging out on my ball tonight. I like the idea of lifing the legs (one at a time of course). Now I just have to figure out how to balance the laptop computer while sitting on the ball and not crashing to the floor with the computer... won't be raising any legs at the same time!! :-) Re: Stability ball question That's a great idea! Guest guest
When I was pregnant with my now 3 year old I only sat on the stability ball. I had very few problems with the pregnancy (some tailbone pain due to hormones) and the delivery was simple. Anyway it helped me out a lot through pregnancy and I wish I could still sit on it regularly (kids play with it and mine needs to be fixed now – it “accidentally” got a big hole, last time before the hole I tried to sit on it I got pushed off by active kids playing mommy tag) My kids all have skippy balls now though and we (well right now they) sit on them during story time (when I am reading to them, when they are reading to me we sit in a chair because I just can’t seem to manage book and child and ball) It is fun for all of us and helps the concentration (because if you stop concentrating you fall off the ball lol) I think tv time and computer time would be a perfect time to sit in the ball. They also have ball chairs and these rings that hold the ball in place for when you want to sit and not worry about the ball rolling everywhere. -- No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
I use to use the stability ball as a desk chair. People use to complain, though, that they couldn't talk to me because I made them sick by bouncing all the time. hehe Actually, just sitting on the ball activates the core for balance, so it is a great substitute for a chair or couch. If you get bored with just basic bouncing, you can do step touches, jumping jacks, etc. to really move and get your heart rate up. I've done the ball while watching tv and had a good sweat going on by the end of a show. You can also add in weights, bands, and pilates type moves and get some resistance training as well as the cardio. As you can see, I love the ball. Guest guest
Would it work too to sit on the bean (www.bean.com) I just found one of these at Walmart and got it, and wonder if it would work too???
Guest guest
Hi!The purpose of the ball is to provide an un-even surface to challenge your "balance" muscles/responses. I'm guessing that if you don't feel challenged by the ball your balance is very good! I'm not sure what could be "wrong" w/ your form w/out seeing it, though. HTH!Donna From: twickenhamjams <abbeyrd@...>Subject: Stability ball question Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 11:22 AM I've been using a stability ball with My Fitness Coach on the Wii, but I've yet to figure out why the ball is better than doing the exercises on the floor. Is there a certain technique to laying on the ball or what you should be feeling as you do the exercise?

Guest guest
Thanks. I think I've just been trying to lay too straight on it. My core balance isn't all that good. If you saw me struggle through the tree pose in Wii Fit, you'd see that. Thanks. > > > From: twickenhamjams <abbeyrd@...> > Subject: Stability ball question > > Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 11:22 AM > > > > > > > > > I've been using a stability ball with My Fitness Coach on the Wii, but I've yet to figure out why the ball is better than doing the exercises on the floor.
