This is just incredible Margaret and demonstrates so well what we are up against!

What can we do with this information?

At the moment I'm up to my ears in arguments with Norfolk LEA and PCT!

I have checked with disability discrimination and Ipsea and have another meeting with my M.P. scheduled for September, so far everyone is saying wrong as it all is, their hands are tied, disbality discrimination were completey unhelpful saying none of it was part of their remit although they agreed allocation criteria for SLT was loaded against the more disabled.

Also have formally complained about school and ultimately will end up with ombudsman, but then what.

We have tribunal in December and can't get an independent speech therapist for love nor money, the one in Cambridge are not getting back to me.

Wondering if it would be worth trying to get the newspapers interested, all made harder by being the school holidays.

That's the place Iv'e been phoning and emailing, but I suppose if they are too busy then I will need to look elsewhere, can't find anyone in Norfolk who deals with tribunals.

I'm challenging the amount of Speech therapy is getting, but obviously if money were no object I would be hiring a solicitor to challenge everything, well actually if money were no object I would be funding his entire education same as I do with his health at least so far, because the expertise I see here is hardly worth fighting for!

Thanks for the info Margaret I had Melinda Nettleton when we were arguing 's case [my other son] it was £300 an hour then lol.

Ideally I would have both Melinda Nettleton and Independent speech therapist but with everything else we are paying out for it just isn't feasible and I guess she will ask me to get independent witnessess anyway, she did last time, so hoping to wing it with just a speech therapist.

I agree about IPSEA the lady I spoke to didn't know as much as I did although I appreciate she is a volunteer and can probably help those right at the beginning of all this nonsense.

The problem is a case of jumping through hoops as someone said to me, Iv'e jumped through all the hoops IPSEA advise and now we are down to needing professionals on board if we are to get anywhere, as a parent of a very severe child there are just so many battles and you will know SLT is just one of them, after this there will be more hoops.

Re speech therapists: have you tried Janet O'Keefe? www.wordswell.co.uk . I would guess she is not working over the summer as she has 4 young children, including one with disabilities. Ask how soon she could do an independent assessment and report for Tribunal - let her know the deadline for submitting her report, as she takes no less than a month to produce a report. try both phoning and e-mailing!

What are you after from Tribunal?

Vicky,

another reply:

I would suggest trying to work out what you need to do to win your Tribunal and focus on all the policy stuff afterwards.

Are IPSEA enough help? They are very busy and it all depends on who you get as a volunteer adviser. Do you have professional representation? Expert reports?

If you can afford about £200 an hour for a solicitor I recommend Melinda Nettleton http://www.senlegal.co.uk/sen-legal-services.htm She is is Bury St Edmunds.

If you can't and you're needing more help than IPSEA can give I suggest SOS!SEN - but of course, it being August they may take a while to get back to you.: sossen@... .

Thanks Margaret I will definitely contact them.

Janet O'Keefe got back to me late this afternoon, we have an appointment for next Friday, she gave me a run down on costs, etc.

Apparently I am only an hour from her, wondering if she means by car or helicopter lol.

Jaqui hope Brad Pitt does call I need something to take my mind off autism.

Vicky,

In that case, definitely get onto SOS!SEN - I know the main person

who runs it is on holiday at the moment. I got a message to contact

her in the South of France yesterday - talk about dedication!

They are very good and their volunteer helpers have been trained for

longer than the IPSEA ones. They also run workshops form timre to

time. I went to the last one and it was brilliant.

Vicky, depends where you are in Norfolk, but a lot of East Anglia does

feel like the back of beyond, especially the fen villages where you

can imagine tiny settlements arising out of the water, once the sea

levels rise...helicopter, I should think, those minor roads take you

round in circles.
