Guest guest
Hello , I have just been stung for £70 as well. I spoke to the UPS guy and he gave me a number to ring at Customs and Excise. He said I would need to explain the situation to them and then get registered as VAT exempt. The number is 0845 0109000. I haven't phoned them yet but I intend to very soon. Good luck Saj ________________________________ From: Autism Treatment on behalf of bbrowne123 Sent: Fri 04/08/2006 16:49 Autism Treatment Subject: vat/customs charges, how to reduce? Just got a shipment from Coastal and was charged £26.00 on the item. It was a supplement for my disabled child. I was under the impression that supplements for disabled individuals do not pay these charges? Am i right?? Anyone got an idea how to get through UPS without waiting for 1/2 hour on the phone? They took my money quick enough, but now when i want it back, they dont answer. thanks

Guest guest
We paid duty recently and have now had a full reimbursement. Jane RE: vat/customs charges, how to reduce? Guest guest
We were reimbursed by DHL for prescription glasses. It may help if you know you are going to be receiving goods to ask for the claim form in advance. Jane Re: vat/customs charges, how to reduce? Guest guest
Hi Jane, which begs the question, HOW did you get reimbursed. The UPS truck has driven away leaving me with an invoice which i paid but no help from their company. What do you have to do to get reimbursed. > > We paid duty recently and have now had a full reimbursement. > > Jane > > > vat/customs charges, how to reduce? > > Just got a shipment from Coastal and was charged £26.00 on the item. > It was a supplement for my disabled child. > > I was under the impression that supplements for disabled individuals > do not pay these charges? > > Am i right?? > > Anyone got an idea how to get through UPS without waiting for 1/2 hour > on the phone? The first time we paid the invoice, but they returned the cheque saying it was not necessary. Another time we received an invoice, I phoned up and they issued a credit note for the same amount to cancel the invoice. Last time a woman rang, and told me that she remembered ringing me once before, and that she would now make some adjustment to our account on the computer which means we should not trigger charges in the future. Ours may be complicated by the fact that we send the frames out, and they are 're- imported' complete with lenses. If you are always going to use the same courier, it is worth ringing them up and seeing if they can make the necessary arrangements. They were in the phone book and very helpful when I imported some stuff some time ago. I think I was given a code to go on one parcel and about 10lb of amaranth flour came in free as it was food and a small quantity. As C & E are the final collectors of the money, they ought to be able to reimburse you if you qualify. Let us know how you get on.
