Some teens communicate their sadness through letters, music or poetry Some seem preoccupied by death Depression Low Self Esteem, worthlessness or sadness Withdrawn from friends Drop off in school or work performance Difficulty in making discussion Guilt or Perfectionism Loss of enthusiasm Significant changes in sleeping or eating behavior Other factors: Heavy drug or alcohol use Getting into trouble with authority figures Sexual promiscuity, truancy, vandalism Giving away important possession Facts about Suicide in the U.S.A. Currently 83 suicides per day, or 1 every 17 minutes Males commit suicide at rates three or four times more than females. Firearms are the most often utilized Spring and Mondays are the highest times of suicides Elderly Adults have rates of suicide more than 50% higher than the nation as a whole and the young ages (15-24) Youth Suicides have increased 200% from the 1950's to the late 1970's. Current rates show the rate since the 1950's has increased over 300% White suicides are almost twice those of non whites as a whole. See what's free at AOL.com.
