I've never heard of anyone losing control and binging on a low-carb

diet. The blood sugar and insulin roller coaster is the primary cause of

binging, and that problem is eliminated by eating low-carb -- as long as

you eat enough fat.

There's not really any way to tell, but unlike a carb-heavy diet, a

high-fat low-carb diet is self-regulating. You might find yourself eating

more total calories but losing weight easily, or you might find that you're

losing weight and eating fewer calories. It doesn't really matter.

That's a very useful site! Here I thought I wasn't getting enough fat, but

that seems to be ok... i'm very low on protein! If you are supposed to get

50 - 75% of your weight in grams of protein... well, i'm around 25% for

yesterday. =(

It's a relief that I am getting almost enough fat though, I figure I eat about

3000 calories a day. The percentage thing based on a 2000 calorie diet,

is the percentage of your RDA for fat?? So they think fat shouldn't make

up more than 30% of your diet and I need to adjust for that? Hmm,

maybe I'm not getting enough fat.

Elaine-

One of my personal favorites is a fatty steak slathered with

butter. Another is eggs and sausage, also made with tons of butter, and

since I make my own sausage, I make sure they're very, very fatty -- half

fat by volume, which means over 70% of calories from fat.

You can also really load up soups and stews with fat -- I often use a

ridiculous amount of coconut oil.

I just went to fitday and wow, that's neat! I would sort of like to go

low-carb as i need to lose post-baby weight, but restricting myself tends to

backfire for me (i'm a lifelong dieter sadly). I have done great in the past

one a high fat, high protein diet and lost weight easily.

Do you guys mind telling me what are some gram counts i should shoot for for

grams of carbs, fat and protein consumed daily? Is 30 grams a day of carbs

considered low-carb? That seems very low. I'm scared of toying with my brain

psychologically and getting into bingeing. Any advice on that aspect?

Thanks for your responses regarding carb/fat/protein ratios. Bee i'm amazed

at how highh your fat count is! Can you help me with this: How do you eat

the fats? I find it tricky to get enough fat without using carbs along the

way -- like butter on bread for instance. This morning i had 1/4 cup of

oatmeal sweetened with maple syrup and mixed with 1 tbl of raw butter and 1

tbl of coconut oil. It felt too sugary for a morning meal but i couldn't

think of how else to get those fats in at breakfast (can't eat them

straight). Yesterday i ate a chicken breast with big lumps of raw butter and

am still daydreaming about it. Just looking for more ideas.
