Guest guest
Hi there,Less of an expert than and JB; however, am quite knowledgeable and trained as a volunteer operator for many years at Project Inform's HIV Health Infoline (800-822-7422; M-F 10a-4p Pacific time). Atripla is partially prescribed by doctors for those who need simplicity in their treatment regimens by daily dosing only once (one pill vs. two pills for some [Truvada & SR Viramune]) in order to increase adherence which greatly affects the success of suppressing the virus, as measured in your circulating blood (only about 10% of all the blood in your body). A better number which connotes improved immune health is the CD4 to total T-cell percentage (note- not the CD4:CD8 ratio). My understanding is that those below 14% are more prone to an OI breakthrough and those around 25% are considered to have a fairly robust immune system. CD4 counts are a snapshot and can fluctuate by 100 easily with no statistical significance. If you can let your doctor know in advance of your concerns, he or she can be better prepared to talk with you at your check-up, rather than hitting them on the spot. Some medical practices allow patients to send e-mails or faxes to them. Good luck!-- Healthfully & Electronically, GoldmanSan Francisco, CAHome of the 2010 WorldChampion Giants!Co-host POZ Cruise a/k/a 's Cruise Retreatwww.hivcruise.com
