Vee,

I haven't heard of it, so I don't know whether it is true or not. Lactic

acid inhibits the growth of B Subtilis so I would expect all the lactic acid

bacteria in PD to keep it in check. B Subtilis is highly toxic to a large

variety

of pathogenic bacteria, but lactic acid bacteria dominate it when they are

combined rather than the reverse. B Subtilis inactivates lipid envelope

viruses, HIV simian IV, herpes simplex, etc, and I think these would be in the

blood

so I would think the B Subtilis would have to be in the blood to have the

desired effect (???). I don't know if this makes any sense... and I think the

studies on HIV etc were in vitro so who knows what actually happens in the body.

B Subtilis is naturally found in miso and natto fermentation, so it isn't

unique to PD. However, apparently there are a wide variety of strains of it and

*soil* strains are specific to soil, and different than other strains. The

info on it is very confusing, especially with all the different strains.

I'd like to know if you get any verification of this. As it stands, it

sounds like a pretty convenient rumor for someone in the probiotic industry! So

far I consider it just that but if you uncover some verification I'd be

interested in hearing about it.
