Guest guest
Jill, What is SCM? From context I gather it is wearing weak glasses or no glasses? I have astigmatism. Your testimony is rather encouraging, though there is apparently conflicting evidence on it-- Dr. Mercola ran an article on a study a few months ago or maybe last year that found that wearing a weaker prescription for myopia than necessary resulted in worsening of vision. I personally take my glasses off all the time. I take them off outside to get sunshine on my eyes (eyeglasses block UV rays) and sometimes I just don't have them on and forget about them. As far as I can tell my vision is getting worse, but I'm not sure. I can still wear my old glasses from a few years ago without noticing much difference between them and my new prescription from less than a year ago, so apparently my vision worsening has slowed since eating better. Excess insulin can cause myopia; I don't know about other problems. On Lasik surgery, the risk is a lot worse than worsening vision (which is 10% according to Mercola. I'm sure this is very rare, but a friend of my family, a doctor, had this surgery performed on him, and from then on was suicidal because his eyes burned all day long, feeling like they had some sort of acid continuously poured into them. My grandfather was counselling him spiritually to help him avoid suicide and at some point he suddenly lost contact with him. Chris
Guest guest
Sorry... " SCM " is " See Clearly Method " which I was talking about earlier in the message but forgot to introduce the acronym (www.seeclearlymethod.com). It is a serious of eye " exercises " which include: -relaxation techniques (acupressure, warm and cold compresses, holding your palms over your eyes, etc.), -teaming exercises (following a scanning chart with a zigzag pattern, using a " fusion " chart, crossing and uncrossing your eyes), -range of motion exercises (eye rolls and clock rotations), and -focusing exercises ( " pumping " --shifting focus from near to far objects, using a word chart). In addition you are encouraged to wear a weaker prescription and go without your lenses as much as possible. Since I got it, they've added a nutritional supplement. Other books/websites recommend various relaxation techniques, wearing pinhole spectacles, and getting at least 30 minutes of natural light and sunshine on your eyes/eyelids. Guest guest
Jill- I don't have time to peruse the website now, though I will later, but is this related to the Bates method? >Sorry... " SCM " is " See Clearly Method " -
Guest guest
I could'nt afford the SCM but have been trying no glasses except old weak one for driving and have noticed a small improvement over the last 2 months in my vision. I think it would be better if I had the whole program. Amy Re: Naturally Improving Eyesight Jill, What is SCM? From context I gather it is wearing weak glasses or no glasses? I have astigmatism. Guest guest
Every method of " eye exercises " I found has some relation to the Bates method. " Palming " for example, was a big Bates thing and is included in most of the modern methods I found. I have a book by Bates and have been reading it. He talks a lot about how people with normal vision use their eyes vs. people with vision problems. I keep reading bits to my 20/20 sighted friend and asking him, is that the way you see, and every single time he says yes. Then I read the parts about how nearsighted people see, and in every case I think, that's exactly how I see. Another book I got talks a lot about personality and emotional issues and their relationship to eyesight. It was really almost TOO " touchy-feely " for me in the first couple chapters. Then I got to the description of the " myopic personality " and she had me so thoroughly pegged it just was funny. So then I thought maybe their is something to it! Guest guest
Here's the SCM for $8.80 plus shipping and handling: <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684814382/ref=qid=1060782126 /sr=36-pd_sr_ec_ir_b/ref=sr_36_pd_sr_ec_ir_b_b/104-3087678-6968740?v=glance & s=books> What it is is a book by the same doctors, published some years before they developed the SCM as it is sold now. Now you can by a $250 set that includes 4 30 minute exercise sessions on 4 VHS tapes, with the same program provided on cassette tapes, a CD, and described in an instruction manual so you can use it in whatever format is convenient. It also included a Daily Progress Journal to record your goals, sessions, improvement, etc. They also have a toll free number and will give you pep talks, answer questions, etc. The book describes all the same exercises. If you get that book and get a kitchen timer to time yourself, you can do basically the same thing. The more elaborate system is certainly handier...I use the VHS tapes at home every morning, use the CD at work for short breaks, and use the cassette tapes with a Walkman on vacation. It's nice to have someone talking you through it and timing everything for you. However, if I'd known about that book before I bought the whole program, I probably would have just used the book! You could make your own audio tapes if you wanted. Guest guest
I see that the link for that book on Amazon didn't come through as a clickable link, so if you are having trouble finding the book here's the title: Improve Your Vision Without Glasses or Contact Lenses: A New Program of Therapeutic Eye Exercises by M. Beresford (Contributor), W. Muris, Merrill J. , Francis Young (Contributor), American Vision Institute Also, if you put " improve eyesight " in the search engine at Amazon you'll get a number of other results.
