I don't recall the 2 MMRs ever being given so close together, but that doesn't mean that they didn't do it for a brief spell. Guest guest
Gillian the department of health's "Green Book" 1996 which every GP's surgery in the land should have states at p. 136 para 22.4.2 "Beginning 1 October 1996 all children, except those with a valid contraindication, should receive 2 doses of MMR vaccine. These are recommended to be given shortly after the first birthday and before school entry." para 22.4.6 "When children who have not received their first dose of MMR attend for their pre-school boosters (DT and polio vaccines), they should be offered their first MMR and arrangements made for a second dose to be given three months after the first dose." The green book is available to purchase from the Stationary office or can be downloaded free. Guest guest
Hi Gillian Both my son's red books say 2nd MMR at pre-School/School entry. My oldest child who is autistic was born in 1999 just like yours, but I refused his 2nd MMR. We are in Hertfordshire, so perhaps it varies from County to County. What County are you in? Kay. Guest guest
This is NOT right! it sounds to me they're now so deperate to push the vaccine that they get you back asap while you're still "compliant". Guest guest
There was an outbreak of measles in my area and I too was put under pressure by my GP and by a local nursery where he attended part-time to give him the second MMR at 2yrs 10 months because of the outbreak. The red book said second dose 3 months after the first which he had at 1 year and 4 months. That was just over a year between the two. What was I thinking at the time. I recall being in a panic about measles as a niece ended up in intensive care after contracting measles. I still can't believe I let this happen. Guest guest
Gillian, PLEASE don’t blame yourself. You were trusting experts and doing the very best you could for your child. We all need to get past blaming ourselves (I find it hard too) but somebody out there IS to blame – save your negative thoughts for them and anyway, we need our energy to put our children right again.
