Guest guest
Wow Natasha, you've got me paying attention. Do keep us updated, wont you. Do you have a link to the product? One thing is niggling at the back of my mind though - remember a miraculous cure for eczema a while back, also chinese herb based, which turned out to have steroids in with the herbs? I expect you've checked out the product and this won't apply at all, but always worth being aware. Guest guest
Natasa, Would you be able to tell us what sort of things you're seeing? Not too long ago there was the article about eliminating anphylactic shock in peanut-allergic mice when they were given a certain blend of chinese herbs. This protection apparently lasted 6 months. I remember thinking wow! I'm so westernized I think of herbs only for spaghetti sauce and such, but these products seem to have very powerful properties. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Yes, that would be a worry with any herbal or 'alternative' supplement, but this product has been developed and is marketed by VRP, who are (to my knowledge so far) a reputable company and hopefuly able to monitor their suppliers and production line .. for the price they are charging they should be growing the herbs themselves in golden pots LOL - 30US dollars over there, it cost £30 with TA discount at Nutricentre. http://www.vrp.com/det/1525.asp?c=1149104376796 & k=/vrpsearch.asp & m=/incl\ udes/vrp.css & p=no & s=0 Natasa p.s. have tons of abstracts if anyone is interested in 'hard' (read very boring) science behind these... > > > > Hi, wondering if anyone else has tried this as would like to compare > > notes. > > > > We started it a couple of weeks ago and the early results seem VERY > > promising. Guest guest
Anita, unfortunately nothing that clear cut, just general things ie better/more cognition, awareness, language, more social, responsive, taking directions... we started LDN in March and have been seeing improvements in all those areas, but when we started this new thing as if all those gains somehow accelerated, same things as before but five-fold .. as I said early days and could be a coincidence, will keep you posted... The most odd thing was that we saw something very similar to what people on Valrex/OLE report: after a few days we saw runny nose, then cough and fever, then a rash appeared (small ezcema like patches on shoulders, neck and then the whole torso - fever got really high on day two but then disappeared completely after one ibuprofen dose). These herbs have many many properties (will email you abstracts) but nothing was ever reported in the antiviral sense. Apart from this anecdotal bit, where it seems one of the components might be interfering with viral inflammatory effects: http://www.uveitis.org/medical/lab/tetrandr.html Someone mentioned might be histamine-related... Best, Natasa btw have you come across Marine Red Algae on your antiviral quest? http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en & cr=countryUK|countryGB & c2coff=1 & sa=\ X & oi=spell & resnum=0 & ct=result & cd=1 & q=marine+red+algae+herpes & spell=1 > > > > > > Hi, wondering if anyone else has tried this as would like to > compare > > > notes. > > > > > > We started it a couple of weeks ago and the early results seem > VERY > > > promising. I would think though that these sorts of general gains would be what one would expect if inflammation of the brain was being dealt with. At least, that's what I would expect. This is very exciting news for you. :-)! > > The most odd thing was that we saw something very similar to what people > on Valrex/OLE report: after a few days we saw runny nose, then cough and > fever, then a rash appeared (small ezcema like patches on shoulders, > neck and then the whole torso - fever got really high on day two but > then disappeared completely after one ibuprofen dose). If I'm reading this correctly (big IF) it would seem to say that this herb works on reducing inflammation caused by herpes virus, and it does it particularly well some time after infection as opposed to early in the infection. This would seem extremely helpful for our children, if it were the case. Did you ever run a viral panel to see what viruses you might be dealing with? Do people on LDN ever see anything like this from the immune system shifting/improving? Did you see any sort of regression during this time? Is your child on any other antivirals? I remember you were looking a lot into mushrooms, etc. As far as you know are any docs recommending this product--how did you find out about it? Sorry for all the questions, but this is very interesting to me. > btw have you come across Marine Red Algae on your antiviral quest? > http://www.google.co.uk/search? hl=en & cr=countryUK|countryGB & c2coff=1 & sa=\ > X & oi=spell & resnum=0 & ct=result & cd=1 & q=marine+red+algae+herpes & spell=1 I've not seen this, no. Actually, I've halted my antiviral search for now. I must attend to my son's thyroid and I'm in the midst of getting therapists set up for him. More like coaches for me (Floortime). Thanks Natasa. This VRP supp is a very interesting find. Anita > >

Yes, that was my understanding as well, that this is happening in retina/cornea at least following herpes infection.... could not find if anyone has looked in something similar happening in neurons though. Unfortunately no viral panel done.£££!!$$$$ > > Do people on LDN ever see anything like this from the immune system > shifting/improving? Many see more infections, colds etc.... we saw two high fevers followed by a regression about a month into LDN. both times we tried introducing Manuka honey. The regression with stop after fever came down. No additional gains from it. Since then we could not go up to the full dose LDN. Also, my feeling is that lots of benefits we are seeing (and I stress we, as is probably a different story with other kids) from LDN is more to do with regulating membrane conductance and cell signalling than from its effects on the immune system. I also have a feeling Luka's immune system is just overactive (he used to be a 'never sick hyperimmune kid'), there is too much going on and he regresses while febrile. I know lots of ASD kids are exactly the opposite, they do well while having a fever/cold..... maybe this could be an indication as to which kids are likely to do well on antiinflammatories, and which kids could do well on immune-boosters, things that raise cytokine levels (like honey etc.). No other antivirals. I am in two minds now, as thinking upping his immune system migh make it even more active, bring about more inflammation... would so like to talk about an expert about this, of course no way of finding or paying for one. As far as you know are any docs > recommending this product--how did you find out about it? It was only launched in January or so. Read about it in VRP newsletter, and as it mentioned calcium channel blocking properties I was all ears and kept on reading and digging.... Guest guest
Natasa, I just saw that you forwarded me the information about this product. I'm going to try to understand it later tonight. I was wondering if you'd mind me sending this thread to the A-M list. Lots of people there with expertise about esoteric stuff. Someone might have something to offer regarding this. Let me know if that's okay with you. Thanks, Anita

Guest guest
Hi Natasha, I'd like to see the references too, if its not to much hassle to send. Guest guest
Thanks Natasa, If there are interesting replies to it I will provide the post #'s here (anyone can read at a-m: it's an open list). I am, however, always trying to entice my favourite people to join us at autism- mercury. It really is a fabulous list. Hint, hint... ;-) Did you notice today's SAR had a couple articles about inflamation and ASD? I thought that was interesting given this fabulous lead you've provided us.
