CMT is not a predictable disorder

Amen to that ,

My Mom was a WW2 Navy Nurse, had perfect feet, was very energetic her

whole life. Dad was some WW2 high ranking officer, survived Pearl

Harbor, was also very energetic, perfect feet, a knee injury from

football, a Harvard B school grad, an exec with s plus busy

in community affairs, City Council, Rotary, Men's clubs, and chased

after rare butterflies as a hobby. Both could walk fine, they

traveled the globe, no one limped, no one had bad balance, no one

fell or dropped things, no one had tremors, etc. Matter of fact, I used to love

to watch them dance together...total beauty, total grace.

Then there's me. OK so Grace is not my name, but I had so many docs

try to " predict " the course of my CMT, that freaked me out for

awhile. As it turns out, those " predictions " were lunacy: none have

EVER happened in the 40 years plus since my diagnosis.

There is not a doctor on this planet who can " predict " the course of

anyone's CMT. My original diagnosing doctor, Marshall Urist, MD of West Los

Angeles (R.I.P) told my mother " her CMT MAY be progressive, or not at all...I

suggest swimming and walking in the sand " (Mom even wrote this down in one of

my photo albums)
