Hi~

I'm a single mom of 6yr old twin boys that have been potty trained for less than a year. We still have bowel movement accidents periodically, but the peeing is pretty much under control. Below is the program we used very successfully. Brenden was trained in 3-4wks and Logan :-) in 2wks. It took us longer to figure things out with Brenden. We took away his favorite things and kept them in the bathroom and once we put up a shelf in front of the toilet about 6ft high with a jar of candy, we were able to keep him motivated. The program is pretty intense, but it works.

Brenden sleeps through the night and stays completely dry, and occassionally, if Logan is REALLY in to what he's doing, he will have a pee accident.

Anyway, feel free to email me privately if you have any questions or would like to have an online pen pal.

Good luck!Shanel

Behavior Based Toilet Training Program

*based on the books "Toilet Training children with disabilities" and "Toilet Training In Less Than A Day" by H. Azrin, Ph.D. and M. Foxx, Ph.D.

What is needed to get started:-Plan to devote a whole weekend.

-Be sure to purchase LOTS of cotton underwear (in characters they will be excited about.)

-Use the big potty with an insert and a step stool if needed

On the first day of the weekend:

-Start day 1 in underwear. No more diapers.

-Push a lot of fluids to make him go often.

-Do "dry or wet" checks every 5 minutes...hand on his underwear asking him "Are you wet or dry?" and if verbal, prompt him with the correct answer.

-Dry is rewarded with a small reinforcer ("good being dry") hopefully edibles to make him more thirsty.

-Wet, you say "Oh no, you're wet. You potty in the potty". Very straight face, letting him know you're serious.

Correction procedure/positive practice

1. take them to the potty,

2. pull wet pants down,

3. sit on potty for just a second,

4. pull wet pants back up,

5. go back to location of "accident"

*Repeat the correction procedure up to 5 times then put on dry underwear.

Your child may be upset during the first day of using this procedure.

- Make a chart to note each dry/wet check, each time they sit on the potty and if they do anything while they are on the potty.

- When the child wakes up take them to the potty first thing and have them sit down. Take off the night diaper and throw it away and say “no more diapers”. Talk about how good it feels to be dry.

- At 15-minute intervals take the child to the potty (depending on how many accidents you're having while pushing fluids you could extend to 30 minutes).

- Say it’s "Time to potty" and he sits on potty. Have them sit only for a few minutes. "

NOTE: You might need a small reinforcer for just sitting on potty.

- If anything happens, even a little, HUGE POTTY PARTY and reinforcers only for that party. Buy some new toys they will really like. They are allowed to play with them ONLY at the potty party.

- Expect that they will tantrum when it was time to leave the potty reinforcer and keep telling him "only when you potty. It may take a special reinforcer to get the BMs down. (i.e. TV/VCR in the bathroom with a special "potty only video")

- Use pull-ups at night at first.

New Here with question about potty training

Hello everyone! I am new to the board. I am a single mom of an 8 year old son who has a DX of autism, MR, speech delay, ADHD. Logan had his DX at the age of 2, so I have been dealing with issues associated with the autism and other delays for 6 years. I feel I have done a fairly good job up until this point! I worked very hard with Logan to get him semi-potty trained and it worked for a while. Logan was peeing in the potty consistently, but never used the potty for a bowel movement. Now, Logan is back to peeing his pants and still refuses to use the potty for a bowel movement. When I ask him where he is suppose to pee or poop, he says "in the toilet" - so he has the concept down and has the understanding of what to do and where to do it.I need HELP! Logan is 8 years old, has the concept down and KNOWS when he has to go - what do I do now???????? He NEEDS to be completely trained! why do we keep going back to

peeing our pants and having to train all over again???? Any ideas??

Blake is 15 yrs. now, but at 11 puberty hit hard. We are now back in diapers. Your going to be going back and forth for the rest of his life.sara barnett <appleblossom_dreamer@...> wrote: Beaumont in Royal Oak, Michigan, provides Toilet Learning Clinics for families of children with developmental disabilities, as well as typically developing children. My soon to be 13 year old still wets the bed at night, he saturates

through a super absorbent depends pant. He was trained daytime at

age 5 using a method similar to the one Shanel used. I'm at a loss

as to what to do for nighttime (I'm soooo tired of washing sheets

just about every day) and also does anyone have a good method on

teaching kids how to wipe after a bm? There's usually a mess with

that too, although at least he does use the toilet. That began after

two weeks of neurofeedback when he was 6. I also found that

chelation causes excessive peeing and some leakage during the daytime.

The adult pullups come in a small, thats what I put Blake in when he out grew the goodnights. celesteshally331 <CShally@...> wrote: My son is 7 years old and weighs about 80 pounds.
