Guest guest
If I was going to do it, I'd put it in FMP because of ease of learning, simple design, flexibility of import and export of comma separated text files or tab separated text files. Guest guest
I assume you mean import/export not copy/paste. Format the data and import sections. Very easy in FMP because you cannot lose the file - it's being built as you import. Keep lotsa copies in case you import 1000 records you didn't want. Guest guest
EG, just now I searched my archive for "eliminating AVS" and found 19 posts. I did this just to see the problems. I opened those 19 in a minute or so and looked at each one. Actually very little data concerning "eliminating AVS" ( a judgment call - not a secretary job). And the posts are repetitive as to data. Now if Dr Grim (or med student, eg) wants to read all those posts, I can email that file. I can email the whole file in 3 MB pieces. But converting those to text using an available OTC application gets another copy/paste thing. Forget the words copy/paste if you're talking a thousand posts. I'm not averse to work, just silly work. I have at least 60,000 HTN abstracts in FMP files by year, also the text files I created to get them in there, formatted in such a way they would fit readily in the FMP outline. Took a while. Now I just use the text file and scan it by eye. Maybe highlight certain words. When I got threw, I had a searchable DB (limited search), and searching for an item might produce 1000 records (abstracts), which I could then export to a text file. So by proper formatting of the text file that goes in I could separate Conclusions, Results, Methods, etc. And in exporting I could select just conclusions, eg. BUT I always had to READ that 1000 conclusions. There is no DB gonna ANALYZE the data for you. If you want to use email data you must format a set of questions, answers to go into the DB. An online is nice if everyone can input data - there the question is how do we get the SET out into our PC for analysis? Does it export? Can we import sets? If so why not post the set to begin with? Put it in an excel file, emailer will treat it like an image. Regards Re: Group management What ever data base we use we first have to get the raw data someplace where it is easy to work with. Guest guest
To all: we are beginning to build the data base data collection. Thoughts and comments needed. JW/Bill I am going to send you something from file maker. It follows the way I do data collection on a new patient. I see two goals of the detailed questionnaire.1. To collect the information we need to try to make sense of what is causing the person's problem. 2. To educate the person about HTN and how to control it.3. Point our items they need to discuss with their Dr. We may have worked on before (I think). But I now may have more time to work on it.Many areas will have items they can choose. In FMP these can be set up as drop downs. I can import from excel or export to excelYOu can download a free 30 day trial of FMPro so you can read it I think. Also a cheaper version is a DB called Bento. I don't know its power compared to FMP. One advantage with FMP is that I can set fields so only I can see them if folks don't want others to see the data. We can also set it so they can only see their own data. We can also allow all to view certain fields but not change them. For example: Education level1. Less than high school2. High school3. Some college4. Degree if yes choose degree BS, MS etc then choose field. This gives me an idea on how to talk to the patient the rest of the interview and in the future And sets the stage for which educational approaches I think about and use.BEGIN DATADate: 100309To the member completing the form:The goal of collecting this information is to get as much detailed medically relevant information as we can about your history of high blood pressure. Only then will be best equipped to assess the best way(s) to control your BP This history will give us possible clues to the cause(s) of your high blood pressure also called hypertension (HTN). It will alert us to the need for further testing to elucidate the cause(s) of your HTN. SALT: You might be one of the many who can lower their BP to safer, healthier levels by simply changing how you eat-especially by lowering the amount of salt you consume. If lowering your salt intake lowers your BP you are called salt sensitive (SS). The beauty of being SS is that you can lower your BP within 2 weeks by lowering your salt (NaCl) intake. DASH: You might be one who can lower your BP to healthier levels by using the mulipronged, best proven, eating plan called the Dietary Approaches to Stopping Hypertension (DASH) diet. The beauty of being DASH sensitive (DS) is that you can reduce you blood pressure to normal in 15 days by following the DASH eating plan. WEIGHT: You might be one of the many who can lower their BP to healthier levels by losing weight. We call these folks weight sensitive (WS). Most of this effect will be seen with the loss of only 10 pounds. ALCOHOL: You might be one of those who can lower their BP by deceasing your alcohol consumption. We call these folks alcohol sensitive (AS). STRESS: You might be one who can lower your BP by reducing your stress. We call these folks stress sensitive (STS). EXERCISE: You might be one who can lower your BP by increasing your exercise. We call these folks exercise sensitive (ETS). MORE than ONE of these. In some more than one of the items above may help your BP. You are unique in the world. Only you and your health care team can find out which of one(s) of these will get your BP to goal. When these methods fail they you will and your health care team need to discuss which medication(s) should be used to get you to goal. Some will require medications that attack the specific problem(s) that are causing You can download and print out a copy of this form to take to your health care team so you can get better control your BP. Please give us the year you were born: ____. We know that blood pressure goes up with age in societies that eat too much salt. The causes of high blood pressure differ in different age groups. Different medications work better in the young than in the old. Gender ___. Women tend to have lower BP than men till menopause. Ethnicity (race)_____ different ethnic groups tend to have different BP problems. For example those descended from the African Diaspora tend to be more SS and respond better to drugs called diuretics. Those of Chinese descent tend to metabolize beta blockers (BB) slower. As we learn more about human genetics we will be better able to think about what is causing your high blood pressure and what are the best life style changes/drugs we need to get your BP to goal. Where were you born: List Where were you raised: List + text How far in school did you go (years)? What is your degree in? This enables me to be sure I don’t talk up or down to you. What are the last 3 jobs you had: 1, for X years 2 for X years, 3 for X years This may tell me how to relate your What are your hobbies? Guest guest
I have built in analysis in some of my FMP files. For example I can find all who are age XX to XXX and get average age, BP, arm circumference etc. What I have not been able to do is to generate graphs directly from FMP. So by proper formatting of the text file that goes in I could separate Conclusions, Results, Methods, etc.And in exporting I could select just conclusions, eg. If so why not post the set to begin with?Put it in an excel file, emailer will treat it like an image. Regards Re: Group management What ever data base we use we first have to get the raw data someplace where it is easy to work with. Something JW is willing to do. > > >> > > I don't disagree. Guest guest
Picking the right search terms is everything. Regards Re: Group management Not as easy if you search for PRA. >> EG, just now I searched my archive for "eliminating AVS" and found 19 posts.> I did this just to see the problems.> > I opened those 19 in a minute or so and looked at each one.> Actually very little data concerning "eliminating AVS" ( a judgment call - not a secretary job).> And the posts are repetitive as to data.> > Now if Dr Grim (or med student, eg) wants to read all those posts, I can email that file. I can email the whole file in 3 MB pieces. > But converting those to text using an available OTC application gets another copy/paste thing. > Forget the words copy/paste if you're talking a thousand posts.> > I'm not averse to work, just silly work. I have at least 60,000 HTN abstracts in FMP files by year, also the text files I created to get them in there, formatted in such a way they would fit readily in the FMP outline. > Took a while. Guest guest
No. Runs in only a MAC? http://www.bentotrial.com/trial/form/entry.aspx?try=bentoPPtry "IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ:Bento requires Mac OS X v10.5.7 Leopard or Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. Please upgrade before installing the Bento Trial." FMP runs in any system. Does a Bento import FMP files? Regards Re: Re: Group management but I already have FMPro. Which I know very well. Can always copy past data from spreed sheet to data base. Almost every one can open PDF files. Abobe has a program thats lets do many things with files. Can down it and try it free for 30 days. it costs about $200. But you may have to buy there FONTS as well.
