Guest guest
Ah yes. and 19000 would be a lot to print. I bet can do it?still we can search by name and one person could be assigned to search all messages by XXX and then enter the data into a file. I am looking at Google Docs. It would be better to have all newbies do this as they enter and can add data. I can set up a filemaker Pro Doc at a hosting environment so that each person does not have to have FMP I think Am looking into that as well. Guest guest
Well, on my PC I have all files and emails, and I can search with the Ctl-F command for a word in title or text or MS application files like emails. I believe you'll have to set up the database on your PC, and recognize that FMP is not all that good searching either. MSAccess is not a tool for the beginner (or I) - not sure about the openoffice base. If I were doing it, I would put it into excel first to collect the data. It's easy to redesign, search, organize, and then import to a database like MSaccess or openoffice. You can also import a text file from excel into FMP. First you better size the task. I have thousands of HTN article abstracts in FMP, but I ended up with a cumbersome set because of I still have to read each selected article. Just organizing tall the conclusions in a bunch of files takes a lot of time. And what you are after is trends, conclusions, something that will grab you and you can write another article, right? Getting the data in a format for analysis is not easy. Regards Re: Re: Group management I think this may be what a used to set up our early database. Guest guest
I don't disagree. He should get a grant and build a website. AFA putting stuff into a database I can do that for free. It would take time. You know when someone creates a search like google they don't actually search everyday like new. Instead they create a keywords list and file all the refs to that keyword. So the main thing is to identify the structure of what you want in the database, else you end up with a list too large to read. The other main thing is everyone has different computers, links, and applications. If I upload a file I must consider what the user will use to read it. So if they can't download it, they hafta ask for a text file, eg. PPT's are not text. So how do we get the info to a varied customer, write it so they can understand it, keep it up to date without a download/upload each time, secure it from change by the unauthorized, allow searches of all documents, and put it in a format that Dr Grim can analyze?
