, make sure you see Dr. Capone and not his associate. Make that clear up

front. I'd hate to see you disappointed after all your hard work. He is very

popular and his patient list grows so naturally he needs help. Just an FYI. I

thought I had an appointment with Dr. Capone and so very little of him.

Although he was very good about following up. And the little I saw of him

was positive.

Nope, it's not. And my HMO would not pay. We had to do out of pocket.

Granted, we didn't have air fare, merely gas and hotel bills. Each time we

went though, and that has been numerous times. There were a couple things

we paid for in that first visit, that we could have done without, but the

information and help we gained for each visit has been incredibly helpful.

Even in terms of getting certain services for Maddie, and we live out of

state!!! I think it will be a big help to you . NOW, for YOUR

homework!!!!! You should gather as much data as possible on . Write

down your thoughts, concerns, issues, EVERYTHING!!! Write separately all

your questions, so you have them at your fingertips. Whenever we go to

important doc appts., Duff is the writer....I am the one who talks and asks

questions. He writes it all down. It's really helpful to have hubby or

someone wiht you during the appt. so he/she can do that. Goooooooooooood

Luck!!!!

Donna, can you tell me why HMO refused? I'd better find out if I'm covered

before we go, although at this point, it's not going to stop us! We can have

our pediatrician write a letter saying it is medically necessary as we've

tried five doctors here in TX who couldn't help him.......I would rather have

my traveling expenses paid for though, and pay for the actual appt. As it

is, it will cost about a 1,000 bucks just for that.

Are you kidding? Me, without ammo????? LMAO! I've already got school

reports, eval's, other doctor's notes, you name it....we are also taking

to get an autism test from the Child Study Center here in FW and I will take

THAT with me too......I am still waiting for their package to arrive.....a

lot of stuff will not be taken, but mailed ahead of time, so that he can go

over it and know something about even before we walk in the door......he

already has the basics, as I emailed him a questionnaire some time ago.

Yes. They said that we could find the same services here in

Philadelphia. A bunch of malarky of course. We don't even have a Down

Syndrome clinic here (Wood Center at CHOP for kids wiht all kinds of

disabilities). My doc did write a letter, and we appealed, to no avail.

For one of our visits to KKI, we did fight and got the school district to

pay for half. Our argument was that Maddie had received no services under

early intervention, since she was in such bad shape they couldn't get within

three feet of her and were at a brick wall. Course, they didn't want to

admit that and Duff (my pitt bull) really blasted them. This was when we

were in an absolute crisis; I remember feeling like we weren't even living!!

After he blasted each and every one of them (they were spouting about how

they thought Maddie was making progress-----It was a JOKE----I ended up being

good friends with all of them, but the reality is that everybody is covering

their backs, ya know), they signed on the dotted line. BTW, I was

disappointed with half......felt we should have gotten full. Oh well.

, definitely check into the insurance thing first.

Nothing worked, except for the videos 's allowed to watch IF he completes

his tasks first.......speaking of the fba, thanks, Donna, after spring break

this week, I need to find out if they've completed their observations.......I

was told they had an fba come in several times during one week, but no one's

gotten back to me yet!

And Donna, the copies of reports, eval's, medical records, notes, etc., etc.

is big enough that I will probably have to send to Capone in a US priority

box!!!!! hehe.

What do they do for a family until age 21 after an autism

identification and who pays for their " services? " Do they attend IEP

meetings? Do they have social workers coming into the home afterward

or only if your child attends one of its schools?
