Guest guest
, Until recently I have had calluses on the bottom of both feet. My Podiatrist removed part of the metatarsal bone in both feet. This was to eleviate pressure on the feet. It worked, I have not had a callus in months! Guest guest
, I have one callus on the right side of the ball of my right food. I have had it as long as I can remember. I care for it myself with a very light pumice stone, baking soda (softens it) and lotion - and twice daily I check both feet for others, or cracks, or anything else. As for her feet hurting when she is on them all day - oh yes, that is the story of my life - although my orthotics provide so much cushioning and support, but I can still end up with hurting feet at the end of the day. A foot massage, and a good night's sleep take the hurt away and I start out the next day with feet ready to go. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hello All, A dermatologist also recommended Amalactin to me. Molded insoles are great and I use one on my better foot with out an AFO. They're pricey at $125 which I paid the last time. I have a podiatrist reduce the calluses once per month at about $45. I used to use my Dremel tool with a fresh sanding drum, but I once got one infected and formed a cyst which was hard to heal up. The podiatrist uses a scalpel. 75 EdM from NH
Guest guest
He actually has custom orthotics (SMO's) so maybe the issue may actually be with the orthotics themselves. I will call them today and see what they think. I like the fragrance free suggestion, hard to find sometimes because he really dislikes the smell of most creams. Guest guest
Lori, Have you thought about metal AFOs? They will work for CMT just as well as the plastic ones. But the main difference is that they attach to the heels of your shoes and are not molded to your legs. They are also cooler in hot weather due to reduced skin contact. Your son would have much less contact to his feet other than his orthotics. I bet metal braces might work better for him. They can put metal braces on tennis shoes as well as dress shoes. They have channels that they put in your heels so you can have shoe changes. I have both metal and plastic braces. Each have their good points and bad points. I think metal braces have maybe more good points than the plastic ones though. If you want to talk about this further I'd be glad to try to help you. Guest guest
Just be careful of the weight of metal braces. Lifting them can significantly impact the muscles if the braces are at all heavy. Have you tried the fishing line trick of tying fish line to the end of the shoes at the toe where the laces cross and then to the bow at the ankle. It helps hold up the foot for running and kicking a ball. > > > >

Guest guest
Bob, The metal will not work for him. His ankle is held in alignment with the custom plastic which the metal cannot do. I think he may just need new ones molded. I really want to put something on his feet now to prevent the calluses from getting worse either way so they will go away. Thx Lori > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi, I have bad calluses especially overlapping the joint between the ball and arch of my right foot. ( This foot and leg has always given me more trouble then the left. ) I just use Vaseline. Deb
Guest guest
If you're older - keeping the feet moist enough to keep the skin solid and not moist enough to get athletes foot - vaseline works fine. I use that. My left foot gets so dry and would crack and probably get infected if I didn't keep it soft and smooth. Hansen
Guest guest
Lori, Metal braces can do that too. He might need t straps which will do the same thing. Basically what a plastic brace will do metal braces will do too. They are basically the same just made out of different things. He is getting the callouses from the footplates in his shoes. He will continue to have them with plastic braces. There isn't a footplate with metal braces. Bob > > Bob, > > The metal will not work for him.
