Now in a reg schedule of low dose ORAL (yep! we finally got there!!)

DMSA and just added oral ALA this w/e. Have been supplementing

selenium & reg vits during chelation days (and nights).

What are most doing for minerals during chelation? Am wondering

whether to just continue with his reg minerals during chelation? Think

AC says should also have Mg & Zn in there. Are there any to avoid

during chelation?

Also, we are dosing 3 hourly during day and 4 at night (hate those

night wake ups)and giving him 25mg of both DMSA & ALA. Tom is 45lbs is

this about right? - certainly seeing no side effects, perhaps a little

more tired now we have added ALA but no stims/behaviours. Am just

wondering if we are getting anything out! Expensive to test just to

reassure me.

What helps make decision between 3 on 4 off and 3 on 11 off? Is it

just whether child ok on schedule? Or speed at which you want to pull

metals? We have been 3/11 on just DMSA, was kinda hoping to see good

improvements (Mum wanting a miracle fix again!!) so wondered whether

to move up to 3/4? Maybe is me wanting to rush - don't want to hurt T.

Apologies for rambling - that sort of day today...

Thanks

Gail

Hello Gail,

This is good news :-)

I've copied and pasted a bit from the supplement file at autism-

mercury. These are Andy's recommendations for supping during

chelation. It's what I do and I use oral DMSA/ALA for my son. Your

doses are higher than what I give, and are in fact at the top end of

what Andy recommends. If you see any problems at all, I would

reduce them.

Many people go with the 3 on 4 off because their kids can tolerate

it, and because they want to get this over with sooner rather than

later. The only reason to go 3/11 is if things like fatigue or

yeast are getting to be too much.

I hope this helps.

Anita

From the supplement file:

When supplementing for chelation, you are not looking for

improvement, instead, you are looking to support the body during the

chelation process. However, you must introduce new supplements just

as you would for more general supplementation. Start low and slow,

watch carefully, keep track.

It is highly recommended that you supplement four times a day—the

body can only absorb water-soluble vitamins and minerals in limited

doses, and giving them all at once is a waste and may be harmful to

your chelating child.

Continue supplementing the same way every day, regardless of whether

you are chelating or not. Supplements should be in place for a week

or two before you begin chelation.

Remember, this is not medical advice, just one recommendation. You

will find different ones elsewhere. You must make the decision as

to what is best for your child.

Note that some supplements call for milligrams (mg) and some for

micrograms (mcg).

Calcium: 5-20 mg/pound divided into four doses over the day

Essential Fatty Acid (flax or fish oil) 1 to 3 tbsp/ day

Magnesium: 10 mg/pound divided into four doses over the day

Milk Thistle: ¼-1 cap (20-80 mg) per dose/ 4 times a day

Vitamin B: 12.5-25 mg/4 times a day

Vitamin C: .5 to 2 mg/pound per dose/4 times a day

Vitamin E: 500 IU/day

Molybdenum: 5-20 mcg/pound divided into four doses over the day

Selenium: 1-mcg/pound/divided into four doses over the day

Vitamin A: 5 RDA's/day. Be sure to consider if your EFA is a source

Zinc: 1 mg per 2 lbs + 20 mgs divided into four doses over the day.

Andy also suggests in some cases that glycine, taurine, lecithin,

carotenes and lypocenes be considered. Note that Pangborn suggests

that taurine be in place before a number of these recommended

supplements are taken.

In Andy's supplement file, it says give vitamin B: 12.5 - 25mg, 4 times a day. Do you know what ratio to give the B vits in?

Thanks,

Hi Diane,

I think it is recommended for B-12, to use methycobalamin form, starting at 1000 micrograms and adding more every 3-4 days. If you see improvements, continue to add additional 1000 micrograms. Side effects to watch for is hyperactivity and aggression, if you see these, discontinue the methyl B-12, or try adding folic acid or folinic acid to reduce the hyperactivity or aggression.

We tried early on in her tx to add the methyl B-12, but we did get aggression, we were successful, later on, and now give 2500 micrograms per day.

Good luck,

Good luck,

Re: Minerals during chelation questions

Hello Gail,This is good news :-)I've copied and pasted a bit from the supplement file at autism treatment. These are Andy's recommendations for supping during chelation. It's what I do and I use oral DMSA/ALA for my son. Your doses are higher than what I give, and are in fact at the top end of what Andy recommends. If you see any problems at all, I would reduce them. Many people go with the 3 on 4 off because their kids can tolerate it, and because they want to get this over with sooner rather than later. The only reason to go 3/11 is if things like fatigue or yeast are getting to be too much.I hope this helps. AnitaFrom the supplement file:When supplementing for chelation, you are not looking for improvement, instead, you are looking to support the body during the chelation process. However, you must introduce new supplements just as you would for more general supplementation. Start low and slow, watch carefully, keep track. It is highly recommended that you supplement four times a day—the body can only absorb water-soluble vitamins and minerals in limited doses, and giving them all at once is a waste and may be harmful to your chelating child. Continue supplementing the same way every day, regardless of whether you are chelating or not. Supplements should be in place for a week or two before you begin chelation. Remember, this is not medical advice, just one recommendation. You will find different ones elsewhere. You must make the decision as to what is best for your child.Note that some supplements call for milligrams (mg) and some for micrograms (mcg). Calcium: 5-20 mg/pound divided into four doses over the dayEssential Fatty Acid (flax or fish oil) 1 to 3 tbsp/ dayMagnesium: 10 mg/pound divided into four doses over the dayMilk Thistle: ¼-1 cap (20-80 mg) per dose/ 4 times a dayVitamin B: 12.5-25 mg/4 times a dayVitamin C: .5 to 2 mg/pound per dose/4 times a dayVitamin E: 500 IU/dayMolybdenum: 5-20 mcg/pound divided into four doses over the daySelenium: 1-mcg/pound/divided into four doses over the dayVitamin A: 5 RDA's/day. Be sure to consider if your EFA is a sourceZinc: 1 mg per 2 lbs + 20 mgs divided into four doses over the day. Andy also suggests in some cases that glycine, taurine, lecithin, carotenes and lypocenes be considered. Note that Pangborn suggests that taurine be in place before a number of these recommended supplements are taken.>> Now in a reg schedule of low dose ORAL (yep! we finally got there!!) > DMSA and just added oral ALA this w/e. Have been supplementing > selenium & reg vits during chelation days (and nights). > What are most doing for minerals during chelation? Am wondering > whether to just continue with his reg minerals during chelation? Think > AC says should also have Mg & Zn in there. There's also a new "Jarrow B-right" that does not smell or taste, at all. You can google it, but I found it at www.luckyvitamin.com, I think. Has all the coenzymes in it, including methylcobalamin, P5P (coenzyme B-6) and pantethine to name a few. A real find at $8 something for a bottle of 100.

Mandi, what are miscellized Bicre drops?

In Andy's supplement file, it says give vitamin B: 12.5 - 25mg, 4 times a day. Do you know what ratio to give the B vits in?

So he is talking about chopping up and crushing tabs they are usually, or caps if you can get them. B vits can be yucky, if you don;t wnat to do them too many times per day you could top up[ with the micsellised Bicre drops which as long as you don't give too many at a time, don;t taste in a full cup of water or juice.

Thanks Mandi,

At the moment, gets the B's from Spectrum Complete and P5P 25mg, B12 jabs 1500mcg and Folinic Acid 400mcg. Would this be enough? We aren't chelating yet, but have an appt with Dr Heard in a few weeks, so I want to get my head around everything before I start as our first attempt at chelating was so bad. I'm also worried in case he asks me to do a challenge test as I don't want to do this, but how else can you tell if he needs chelating? I don't much fancy doing the porphyrin test either, as if it said no metals, I wouldn't believe it! 's hair test met the counting rules for mercury, but would Dr H be happy with that?

Thank you,

Diane

What happened? what did you use, how much, how often and did you pull the mineral on round?

>> This was last year, when we were with Dr Downing. We were doing Buttar's protocol, using only Spectrum Complete for supplementation, and that was only on the off days. After 2 months, had virtually stopped talking, eating and pooing. We knocked it on the head, and have spent the last year healing his gut. He was then full of lead, but was getting rid of some, his pre challenge lead was quite high.
