They put n IEP in the US - I aked about that too (this is when we had the impossible teacvhers x 2 a few years back) but then they said it wasn't a measurable target so it couldn't go in there either! (it would have been one for them LOL) Worth a shot anyways I think, good luck Mandi x

Guest guest
I had 's diet mentioned "Certain foods make him ill" under non-medical provision I think. I then wanted 's statement changed, as her statement was finalised before she was on the SCD, changing it appears to be a different kettle of fish. I rang County Hall, who asked me to get a medical letter, so very kindly wrote me one, but they still wouldn't change it. It hasn't really mattered as the school have seen (and benefited from) the massive improvement in 's concentration and behaviour, and I've told them verbally to only let the children have food and drink that I provide. I'll mention it again at the next review, see where I get, as I still want it added in, as has Syndrome X, where if she continued to eat sugary items, she would eventually develop diabetes, so I do think it's important to have it included, as can't always help herself (she's been known to sneak into the staff room and pinch the teachers kit-kats!) Guest guest
Take this in in case it case. J Autism Child Schizophr. 1978 Sep;8(3):325-37. Related Articles, Links Disruptive behavior: a dietary approach.O'Banion D, Armstrong B, Cummings RA, Stange J.The effect of particular foods on levels of hyperactivity, uncontrolled laughter, and disruptive behaviors was studied in an 8-year-old autistic boy. The floor of the child's room was taped off into six equal-sized rectangles to measure general activity level. Frequency data were recorded on screaming, biting, scratching, and object throwing. A time-sample technique was used to record data on laughing. Data were gathered during four phases. During an initial 4-day period the child was fed a normal American diet. A 6-day fasting period followed, during which time only spring water was allowed. The third phase lasted 18 days and involved the presentation of individual foods. During the final phase of the study the child was given only foods that had not provoked a reaction in the third phase. Results showed that foods such as wheat, corn, tomatoes, sugar, mushrooms, and dairy products were instrumental in producing behavioral disorders with this child.PMID: 690067 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] Fw: Adding Biomed to educational statement? I remember when we were going through the tribunal process being told by legal rep that you can do this. However, you need medical backing to show that your child really needs to be on the diet and that it is detrimental to his/ her health. He said there had been cases where the parents had been allowed to home ed because the school could not guarantee keeping to this. I just think of peanut allergies etc., How do they make sure the kids don't come into contact with nuts ?? Jane
Guest guest
Am I reading this correctly, they didn't give this child any food for SIX days? Where did they do this study? This is ethical?
