Some in the group made mention of looking for inexpensive home therapy items. I put this list together for a group I moderate in Illinois. Hopefully the links still work. Also www.therapyshoppe.com has inexpensive sensory items.

Therapy Equipment at IKEA

Take a walk through IKEA and you'll find quite a few occupational therapy selections at a fraction of the price sold in those high end therapy equipment magazines. We've added links to items.

IKEA EKORRE – two suspension hooks for the ceiling – only $1.99

IKEA SVINGA – hanging seat for two

IKEA EKORRE seat - hanging seat – you will need to buy a bean bag or cushion for seat part

IKEA EKORRE rope – Rope ladder

IKEA EKORRE rings - hanging hand rings

IKEA EKORRE storage – hanging basketball net/storage

IKEA RUSIG – small rocker

IKEA FRAME – seat rocker plus cushion

IKEA VAGGA – large seat rocker

IKEA MINNEN – rocking bench

IKEA LOMSK – swivel chair with hood to create secret hiding place

IKEA SKON – foldable air mattress – use as a crash pad

IKEA MURMEL – bed tent

IKEA HIMMELSK – more enclosed bed tent

IKEA LOVA – bed canopy

IKEA BLIMP – multi square mirror

IKEA DIKTAD – small stand up mirror good for practicing speech sounds

I got the greatest idea from reading this email. My son is pretty verbal now, but he mumbles when he doesn't know what to say. So, we used the mirror idea to practice talking and singing. He loves it and just one day has really made a difference. Thanks!autismcc <autismcc@...> wrote: Some in the group made mention of looking for inexpensive home therapy items. My son has the hanging seat for 2,(the wicker hanging swing)and it's great! I

have a hook in my ceiling in my house so he can swing when he needs to.What we

also did is bought a rotational hook so that he can " spin " as well,we bought

that from Southpaw Enterprises.
