This site may help you. flowerspy is in this group she has a lot of things to say about what conn's has done to her life in this blog. http://hyperaldosteronism.blogspot.com/

>> This is my first post. I had a confirmed diagnosis of Conn's in Nov 09 though it had been suspected since Nov 08 and I've had borderline hypertension since I was 18 - I'm now almost 38 ( nobody thought this was odd, despite family history of very low BP!)!! I was meant to be having surgery today to remove the small tumour - 2cm, from my left adrenal, but last week I received a letter, postponing my surgery until 30th March! By no means was I looking forward to the surgery, TBH I was very scared, but I now find myself in a state of contstant tearfulness, I've suffered with depression on and off throughout adulthood( is this all due to Conns??) Not sure how to get through until 30th March, still in full time work with small boy and supportive husband at home. The same symptoms you all mention - headaches, exhaution, extrasystoles, but its the mood swings and depression getting to me at the moment. Current meds - 50mg Spiro and 8 mg doxazosine o.d.>

I'm not a physician and don't have any input on depression being directly

related to Conn's, but certainly know the drag of feeling lousy all the time. I

believe that in and of itself can lead to feeling down; it is crazy to be

completely exhausted constantly. Especially thinking you were about to have

resolution and then the let down of having to wait another six weeks. When I

started having symptoms in 2008 I would show up at the endo's office crying and

emotional; he finally asked why I was crying and I said " because I used to feel

good " . When my heart would start racing at my desk, it was so upsetting I

finally got to where I'd have to leave work because I couldn't sit there crying.

Now I'm less emotional and anxious, mostly I think because the crazy racing and

pounding heart is not as bad as it was then; I attribute that to changing my

diet, don't know if that is true. My exhaustion, polydipsia, polyuria, and

headache are far worse now. I keep hoping I will get back to " myself " who was

active, energetic, healthy. The slow diagnostic process for this condition (I

don't know if I have it yet) is very frustrating. Hang in there!

Haveing any undiagnosed condition is depressing. With Conn's there does seen to

be a link to it and depression. Since I have not seen good information on this

can't say if it is a fact. We have to remember that even after 50 years more

research needs to be done.

What has your K been doing. and BP. Have you had an AVS done to increase the likelyhood that surgery will help?Have you been on more spiro. Many will require much more.If you have not been DASHing I would start immediately as this my improve your BP and K and your general sense of well being. The young age of onset suggested one of the inherited forms which does not respond to surgery.CE Grim MDOn Feb 17, 2010, at 7:50 AM, penny.giles wrote:This is my first post. Thank you to everyone for such a quick response, makes a huge difference to know there is support out there! Also knowing I'm not the only one reduced to crying at work helps - I'm normally very professional ( I work in the NHS - National Health Service) and the fact that I'm unable to control my emotions at work is highly frustrating - a vicious circle??I eat a very low salt diet anyway, have done since I fell pgt 4 years ago, through pgy BP was OK amazingly, and we cook from scratch generally, though tiredness occasionally pushes me towards to frozen pizza! We don't add salt to any of our cooking. I have to be honest and say that my sugar intake is probably too high, so will be

reducing that from now on. Haven't had a chance to check out other aspects of DASH as yet, tonight once the little one is asleep I should get a chance.Last BP was 2 weeks ago 140/90 as a nurse I can take my own, will do tonight - good for me, generally around the 160/110 mark, K was under normal range and Na was raised, though I don't have the exact figures. They are not doing AVS, I did ask back in Nov last year but it was felt that as I had no other nodules that the one found was more than likely the culprit. Having difficulty contacting anyone at the hosp where the treatment is to take place, not many places have the specialist endocrinologists so I'm having to travel to London, seen every 3 months or so. I did ask if I should raise my spiro when I saw the surgeon last Nov, but was advised to stick with current dosage.Thank you all again for the tips, links and supportBest

I haven't been on spiro yet, but I believe the DASH diet really helps; I changed

my diet on my own when everything started and some symptoms definitely improved.

Just learned of DASH here, and my diet matches it except fewer servings...

If BP and K not at goal ask Dr to increase spiro and DASH more.CE Grim MDOn Feb 17, 2010, at 11:02 AM, Penny Giles wrote:Thank you so much for you reply, I haven't had the palpitations too much since I've been back on the spiro, but all those other symptoms are still there!! I believe that in and of itself can lead to feeling down; it is crazy to be completely exhausted constantly. Especially thinking you were about to have resolution and then the let down of having to wait another six weeks. When I started having symptoms in 2008 I would show up at the endo's office crying and emotional; he finally asked why I was crying and I said "because I used to feel good". When my heart would start racing at my desk, it was so upsetting I finally got to where I'd have to leave work because I couldn't sit there crying. Now I'm less emotional and anxious, mostly I think because the crazy racing and pounding heart is not as bad as it was then; I attribute that to changing my diet, don't know if that is true. My exhaustion, polydipsia, polyuria, and headache are far worse now. I keep hoping I will get back to "myself" who was active, energetic, healthy. The slow diagnostic process for this condition (I don't know if I have it yet) is very frustrating. Hang in there!>> This is my first post.
