Guest guest
Hi all, I'm new here. My name is Kimmery and I have a 9 year old son, , but I call him Pooh. He is dx'd HFA but I pretty much believe he is more Aspie than HFA. Anyway we have been through h*ll for the last 18 months with the end results being he is in a residential treatment center and I was fired from my job. I am having second thoughts and am going to bring him home. Residential Treatment centers in general are not set up to handle Aspies and I really think it is doing more harm than good. I have learned alot and since I am unemployed I now have the time to devote to him instead of letting someone else do it. What I need to know is if anyone has pointers for the getting stuck. When I talk to him he just gets stuck so much. Then he shuts down. If I try to talk softly and calmly he will go into meltdown and rage. He is terrible about self injury. He bites himself, chokes himself, beats his head terribly either with his fist or against the walls. How do you, if you can, get through to them when they are stuck? I already have charts for his daily routine, but he even gets stuck when it is time to do that. I am wanting to implement just a little more responsibility for him. Slowly of course. I really think I can do this on my own, btw, I am a single mom with a very limited income. Just his SSI and my unemployment right now. So purchasing any kind of videos or books for help is out of the question. He also has SID and if anyone has pointers on how to make weighted vests and blankets that would be great too. Well, that's all for now. I love this place and thanks in advance. Kimmery
Guest guest
Kimmery Unfortunately I can sew to save my life. But I did have a possible idea about books and videos. I live near a university and I was able to check out materials from it. (even though I am not a student) I got this information through interlibrary loan. I read the " how does your engine run " book. I got to keep it for a month. I photocopied the pages that were really important to us. That is a good book about SID. Guest guest
I have a copy of that book that I am not using anymore, I could mail it to you. There is a quiz in the book that I have filled out in pen, but you should still be able to use it. Let me know. Guest guest
Tami, Which one do you have, the Out of Sync, or the one about having fun. I have the Out of Sync, that one has a bunch of evals in it. Is that the one you are referring to? If it is the other one that would be great. I already have $500 of products on hold, in my shopping cart, on amazon.com. So, one less would be awesome. :-) Thanks, Kimmery > > I have a copy of that book that I am not using anymore, I could mail it to you.
