Guest guest
Most parents can not afford costly aba. I would check out CARD for potty training help. My two autistic sons are going to have intensive 6 hour long day potty training sessions over a 4 day period, provided through CARD (for free) next week. Sara is finally potty trained / Greenspan's Floortime Hey everybody. I'm Luann from Greenville, SC and I have a little boy with autism and ADHD named who will be four in October. YaY that he's now potty trained! We did it the ABA way and it worked though it was very intense and costly. Just had to share - I'm so happy and proud. I didn't know if he was capable of it or not. = )I recently checked out Stanley Greenspan's book "Engaging Autism" andwas wondering if any of you have any comments good or bad aboutFloortime. The book seems great. We do ABA therapy with but I amconsidering implementing lots of Floortime too. Thanks for any responses!warmest regards,Luannhttp://awiggletot.4t.com
Guest guest
Hey Luann, Congrats on the potty training!!! I know what a monumental milestone that is!! We did DIR/floortime with my son from the time he was dx'd at age 3(he's 9 now).I have not read " Engaging Autism " but I feel that DIR/Floortime brings the very " connectedness " and relatedness that your child needs to sort of come into the world. The strongest point to me about it is the relationship building and reciprocity in the ways you can engage with your child...it's so important. It's something that just becomes a way of life not just something you do at a designated time or at the table.I've attended several conferences over the years and it was well worth it and helped me to move him on to higher levels. Hope this helps! Stacey From: Luann <poobigirl@...> Date: 2006/07/29 Sat AM 08:31:08 CDT autism Subject: is finally potty trained / Greenspan's Floortime Hey everybody. Guest guest
I credit floortime with my son's advancement. We started with him at 3. He was diagnosed at 2 as moderate-severe. Now at 7, he's considered aspergers. If I had known about it then, I probably would have done RDI instead. Floortime is child-lead play with the goal of interaction. RDI is adult-lead play that teaches the child read others naturally. I've heard it said that floortime lays a good foundation for RDI. Getting my son to receive instruction (look, wait, and listen) is still a challenge a lot of the time. > > Hey everybody. Guest guest
Our 4yo son still isn't potty trained and I would appreciate more information on " Floortime. " This is the first time I've heard that expression (as educated we get about autism it seems there's always something else out there we don't know about ). We can't afford ABA and so know very little about it. Can someone recommend a way for us to learn more about it and/or how to do this ourselves? Congratulations, Luann!!! Guest guest
Thanks! I've heard really great things about RDI too. ABA takes away most of our money but I really wish I could implement so many more therapies with - thanks for sharing your son's progress with me and giving me hope. warmest regards, Luann -- Re: is finally potty trained / Greenspan's Floortime I credit floortime with my son's advancement.
