Guest guest
Ask him to join our group where we have about one new case a week. Clarence E. Grim, BS, MS, MD Specializing in Primary Aldosteronism, Difficult High Blood Pressure and recent evolutionary forces on high blood pressure in populations today. I was also on Yaz for about a year before all this started; wonder about a connection, presumably the progestin ingredient is chemically somewhat similar to spironolactone... I also have complete exhaustion, avoid some social contact because I know I can't stay awake late and am more tired next day, feel tired as soon as I wake in morning, etc. I went to new endo today. My aldo/renin ratio is 28.5; he said that is "suggestive" of PA but he does not believe I have it since K is not low; said he likes to see ratio higher than 30 for definitive diagnosis. However he did ask me to go off meds (captopril is only current med) for one month then redraw aldo/renin/chemistries. That is fair. He said he diagnoses 2-3 cases of PA per year; figures it is cause of about 7-8% of people with HTN. Was not impressed that my renin was low/aldo normal in 2008 when this started, so next time I'll take him Dr Grim's article on evolution of PA. He asked how I was referrred to him, I told him that I searched on this group; told him of Dr Grim. He said I had done a lot of homework and was well informed. Think that may be only reason he is going to repeat the aldo/renin in a month, not sure.. He said since my NA and K changed so fast on HCTZ and captopril, could be suggestive of renal artery stenosis; he may pursue that with ultrasound if aldo/renin not over 30.... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Check them for PA as well. Easy to do these days. If one has it they you have a familial form. Clarence E. Guest guest
Unfortunately he is not much interested in symptoms; however at least he did not give me the " menopause " excuse and send me packing. Apparently he has diagnosed people in full blown late stage PA bc he is only looking for BP that is controlled (or not) on multiple meds; low K; and aldo/renin ratio over 30. It is frustrating to have so many symptoms that are ignored. Since my BP is (thankfully) controlled on captopril, K not low, ratio 28.5, he did not even suggest maybe it is early stage PA, just thinks unlikely to be PA; but will repeat aldo/renin off meds next month. I hope if I do have PA, it will not require me to develop much higher BP and very low K. I feel for everyone in this group who has more advanced signs and symptoms than me. Anyone know a good PA endo in the southeast? I will definitely take him some info from this site - I'm thinking Evol of PA, results of 2009 survey of people diagnosed with PA ---other suggestions? I'll encourage him to join. Thanks - Suzanne > > >

Guest guest
uhhhh--the southeast is a very large area and I know many but cant help without better geography. I would suggest a trial of spiro Clarence E. Grim, BS, MS, MD Specializing in Primary Aldosteronism, Difficult High Blood Pressure and recent evolutionary forces on high blood pressure in populations today. Guest guest
I searched in the messages and found Jeff's recommendation a couple of weeks ago - Gordon Wotten, MD. That is who I went to see yesterday. Jeff must have been more advanced in him symptoms than I am currently. If anyone thinks of someone else in ATL, any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks! > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Or we can educate Dr. Wotten so he can take care of all the others he is missing.Send or take him my article on the evolution of PA.I would have thought Jeff had done that.CE Grim MDOn Feb 16, 2010, at 3:54 PM, smkushka wrote:I searched in the messages and found Jeff's recommendation a couple of weeks ago - Gordon Wotten, MD. Guest guest
Yes, I will definitely take him your article - thought I'd also take the results of your 2009 survey which is great information.
