Sorry I do not have an intro posted before as I did not find this site until

just before my surgery mid January of this year.

I had a left laproscopic adrenalectomy 3 1/2 weeks ago and my blood pressure has

been great and I am off all meds.

However, my heart rate has increased to anywhere from 95-119 and couple times to

130. (Before surgery was it was 87-109 on meds.) I did a search of this site and

I thought I saw where Dr. Grimm said that is a good sign?

Is that right?

My other question is my calves, shoulders and neck and have become very stiff

and sore 3 weeks after the surgery. Even my carpal tunnel has flared up again.

Could these symptoms be a result of the adrenalectomy? Any idea on when things

will settle or even out?

Thank you.

Your BP control systems are readjusting to no more excess aldo-hopefully.

Keep us posted.

What has K been doing. Was renin and aldo checked after surgery yet. How long was the surgery?

Give us your story (in an email) and they in files after we review and comment when you are back on your feet.

Get a copy of the adrenal path report for you and yoru families file.

Thank you Dr. Grimm for your quick response.

" Your BP control systems are readjusting to no more excess aldo- "

Just a clarification please, do you mean both the heart rate and muscle ache and

joint pain or just the heart rate?

" Get a copy of the adrenal path report for you and yoru families file. " Bear

with me please explain why? Other than to keep records in case of future needs.

I thought only rare cases was hereditary.

In answer to your questions,

no after surgery blood work other than what was taken while in the hospital.

Follow up appt with surgeon Mon. hopefully he will have those results. Blood

drawn in 3 weeks before endo appt.

My surgery was about 2 1/2 hours.

My K has always been within normal rages.

Thanks again

PS

anyone else have input on how you felt month out of surgery?

You want to know if any of the rest of the adrenal has smaller bumps outside the big one. If so much more likely it is on both sides but time will tell. Even tho inherited forms are rare if u have it then 50% of your first degree relatives will (on the average) have it as well. You will save them lots of trouble in the future and likely save lives. The first clue is that your familyTree shows strokesIn men before age 50 or Htn in 2 generations with an age of onsetAs early as 5. " Muscle and joint pain may be due to stayingmin one position during Surgery "

but 4 weeks after?

It is mainly stiffness in calves, neck and shoulders. Also the arthritis in big

toes and thumbs have flared up.

And what about my weight gain?? Everyone else said they lost. I have put on at

least 3 lbs and am bloated everywhere.

thanks again

My story is typed up but I have to figure out how to post it.

Write your story

in any manner you choose. If

it is easier for you, just copy your messages you have already sent

to the list, add Dr. Grim’s comments (if

any) and paste them all to a Word file and save. Remember where you saved your story

on your computer.

On the Hyperaldosteronism main page, click on

“Files” on the left

Find the folder

called “Conns Stories.”

Click on

“Add File” at the bottom right.

Click

“Browse” to find it on your computer.

Type in a short

description like “Joe’s story.”

Click on the box

to send a message to the group to notify them of the addition.

8.

Click

on “Upload File.”

If

you want to update your information, do the additions/corrections in the file

on your computer. Then delete the

file you previously uploaded to and re-upload per the instructions above. Only the original author can delete your

story. If you try to upload your

story with the same file name, won't allow a duplicate.

Forgot to add, I am still a little foggy in morning upon waking but it resolves

guickly. I was waiting to post those things a little farther out of the surgery

to see if things settle.

Dr. Grim, pretty sure it's not gout, I have bone spurs on toe joints. My carpal

tutunnel has flared up again too.

Maybe my stopping omega fish oil before surgery has caused the joint flare up.

I just resumed the fish oil this week.

show up after surgery. I'll check that out.

Hello, I read your story and the symptoms definitely have many similarities to

mine and many others from what I read on this group. Also, I too was on Yaz for

about a year before my symptoms started; wonder about a connection, presumably

the progestin ingredient is chemically similar to spironolactone... I have

complete exhaustion, avoid some social contact because I know I can't stay awake

late and am more tired next day, feel tired as soon as I wake in morning, etc.

I went to new endo today. My aldo/renin ratio is 28.5; he said that is

" suggestive " of PA but he does not believe I have it since K is not low; said he

likes to see ratio higher than 30 for definitive diagnosis. However he did ask

me to go off meds (captopril is only current med - ugh, just when my BP is

finally normal now I have to let it go high again) for one month then redraw

aldo/renin/chemistries. That is fair. He said he diagnoses 2-3 cases of PA per

year; figures it is cause of about 7-8% of people with HTN. Was not impressed

that my renin was low and aldo normal in 2008 when this started, so next time

I'll take him Dr Grim's article on evolution of PA. :)

He asked how I was referred to him, I told him that I searched on this

group; told him of Dr Grim. He said I had done a lot of homework and was well

informed. Think that may be only reason he is going to repeat the aldo/renin in

a month, not sure.. He said since my NA and K changed so fast on HCTZ and

captopril, could be suggestive of renal artery stenosis; he may pursue that by

ultrasound if aldo/renin not over 30 next time....

RAS gives high renin and aldo not low renin and aldo. He is watching you evolve thru my stages of PA. When K gets low he will say Ahha! PA which has been there in subtle form (to the uninitiated) for as long as you have had HTN. Keep us posted

So if the ratio was 29.99 he would say you did not have it but at 30 he would. Take him my article. Clarence E. Grim, BS, MS, MD
