To my knowledge both those statements are wrong.

Lactulose should only be utilised by lactic acid bacteria,

not available for acid producing bacteria in the mouth,

and ( nearly) not fermentable by yeast !

This seem like a very acceptable reason to be careful with clearing lactulose from the mouth, and IMHO i felt very inclined to believe it as i had noticed the build up of crud on my sons teeth when taking lactulose regularly. Perhaps Geir you could point me in the direction of evidence that this is not the case, i would be happy to be proved wrong and I will tell the dentist when i next see her!

But what you were really saying was that it would go about it in a differetn manner to sugar - nbot directly attacking the teeth as normal sugar would but via the backdoor in promoting the bad oral bacteria? have I got it now?

No I cannot , apart from producer info,

and I belive you and your dentist more,

probably.

there is when long term use a selection of Lactulose fermenting

bacteria, like you suggest.

I guess that is also possible with yeasts,

althoug as Lactulose is fermented by Lactic acid bacteria,

they are producing Lactic acid, that in turn supress yeasts and other

bad bugs, also with producing other suppressing microbiological

bactericides and funigcides.
