Clerical Work

Just thought I would share one of my successes with developing a home based educational program for my son. This is an eclectic program and consists of a home tutor for job sampling, vocational assignments and social skills, music therapy and recreation therapy. I am seriously considering RDI and have had a home assessment by mentors of Gentle Teaching. I am currently looking into other therapies as well as I find the nature of these individuals are warm, caring, understanding and have very good relationship building skills which all help to promote good communication and appropriate adaptive and social behaviors.

We have contracted with various local businesses to handle their weekly, monthly and quarterly mailings. seems to enjoy this type of work (folding, stuffing, labeling, stapling, stamping, etc) and does well. I will continue to seek out similar job opportunities so that eventually he will have a full schedule. Over the holiday season, we worked extensively on Christmas card mailings for businesses, family and friends.

There is work for our kids to do out there and there are people that are willing to help us help them. We have not asked for payment, but if questioned we say it is only optional for now.

So parents if your child is capable and enjoys doing clerical work you may be able to fill some of his or her hours with practicing meaningful vocational skills in school or at home.

If anyone has been successful in any other areas of finding work for your child, please do share. I am currently looking for some assembly and packaging/packing work contacts. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Thanks,
