Guest guest
To me it seem there seem to be in a hurry to do your surgery. Do you know why they can't do it lapoaroscopically? > > I wish I would of found this group a long time ago. Here is a quick run down of what has gone on. About 3 1/2 months ago I went to the doctor for a head ache. My blood pressure was very elevated, 190/120. He started me on blood pressure medication. After three weeks and three different medicines he ran a series of blood tests, including Leukemia because of the low potassium levels and it did run on both sides of my family. After testing he sent me for an MRI and MRA and they did find a partial blockage in my left adrenal vein. From there he sent me to a nephrologist who ordered an adrenal vein sampling. That was about 3 weeks ago and it was determined that I do have a tumor on my left adrenal glad and I go in for surgery on Monday. This has been such a whirlwind for me. I am only 29 years old and have never had any medical issues. I am fortunate that I do live in Houston, TX and do have some of the best doctors in the world here but needless to say I am disappointed because they are not able to do the procedure lapoaroscopically and will be cutting me open to remove it. > > Has anyone had this procedure before? What was your recovery time? Did you have to be on blood pressure medication afterwards? Did everything go back to normal? I have so many questions and I know everyone is different but I am trying to fathom what is going on and have a better understanding. > > Thank you!!! >

Guest guest
First let me say I am not saying that anyone here has any less knowledge of this rare disease. Needless to say I know I have so much to learn and trust me, this has been very fast for me too so I am not claiming to know everything. That is why I got on this group so I could learn from people who have been going through the testing and have had to deal with this. To somewhat answer your question why they can't do it lapoaroscopically, I really don't know. I was in such shock they they were doing it so quickly and that they were not do it lapoaroscopically. I know when I met with the nephrologist he was telling me how from the AVS that my test came back so imbalanced 20,000 on the left and 18 on the right. I thought we were going towards surgery quickly too but I think part of it is because I can not get my blood pressure under control. It is still in the 170's and 180's and have tried over 8 different prescriptions to try and get it under control. My potassium is not under control and I have been on supplements. When I had my MRI it did show a 7cm mass on the left and also a 70% blockage on the left adrenal vein. So I am very confident in my doctors that they are making the right decision. Like I said, if I lived somewhere where doctors have never dealt with this disease I would be concerned but I am not. > > > > > > I wish I would of found this group a long time ago. Guest guest
I think the size of the tumor is why they can't do it lapoaroscopically. > > > > > > > > I wish I would of found this group a long time ago. Guest guest
This is a very large Conn's so open surgery is OK. I suspect you meant renal artery rather than renal vein. Many have 70% renal ARTERY narrowing but no HTN. So the role of this in your BP is interesting. Keep us posted and be sure to get path report and send to us. This disease is not rare BTW. I am impressed that your health care team only took 3.5 months to make Dx. Many on our site took years. They are to be congratulated.
